This is an extremely annoying problem.
After opening a PDF file with a page that was scanned in, I rotate the page. Then I save the file. Upon reopening the file, I find the graphical page in its original orientation, that is, NOT rotated.
Is it possible that Acrobat does not save a file exactly in the orientation I see on the screen?
The problem existed at least since version 4.0 and continues till the current 6.0.1.
Almost unbelievable. What am I missing?

Thanks,

David

You are using the Rotate View button. That does just what it says -
rotates the current view, nothing else. If you want to permanently
rotate a page, so that this rotated page is saved with the document,
use Document > Rotate Pages (Acrobat 4,5) or Document > Pages > Rotate
(Acrobat 6). Yes, it is unintuitive.

Aandi,

Many thanks for the super prompt, accurate and complete answer.

To call it "unintuitive" is an understatement and very mild.

To achieve "Rotate View" only, one could simply do Document > Pages > Rotate (Acrobat 6, for example) and then, simply NOT to save!.
It is a classical case where unnecessary code is thrown in and "confusing the enemy" (the customer...) in the same occasion.

I was stumped on this one as well.

Is Adobe Acrobat different than Adobe Acrobat Reader? I have Adobe Reader 5.0, and under "Document", I am not seeing "Rotate Pages" as available options.

Reader means just that it Reads a PDF file using options set by the creator of the PDF. There are Reader options to temporarily change orientation (you should see Icons with a page and a an arrow showing how to rotate a page for viewing). But these changes cannot be permananetly saved in the PDF by Reader.

For permanent changes and the resources to create and setup options for PDFs, one uses Adobe Acrobat. Cuurent versions are 6.0 for Reader, Acrobat Pro, and Acrobat Standard. There's an update 6.0.1 available now for Acrobat (Pro and Standard). There's no Adobe announcement about an update for Reader, but a number of users have expressed expectations that such an update could be available this year.
Hope this helps
Ian
