I just installed Acrobat 8 on a new computer. On my previous computer, Acrobat documents were listed in Windows as "Adobe Acrobat 8" File Type. Now Windows calls them "AcroExch.Document" and the icon looks different. They seem to be working okay (they open in Acrobat 8; I checked that the .PDF file type is assigned to open with Acrobat 8 in the File Types options) but it's disconcerting becasue I don't know why it's different. Could there be something wrong with the installation?

My GUESS is that you have a Registry problem

Have you (ever/recently) used a Registry utility program to check for integrity?

The original full application was called "Exchange" and if you use Acrobat JavaScript the viewer types are:

"Reader" - Acrobat Reader version 5.0 or earlier / Adobe Reader version 5.1 or later
"Exchange" - Adobe Acrobat earlier than version 6.0 / Acrobat Standard version 6.0 or later
"Exchange-Pro" - Acrobat Professional version 6.0 or later

Thanks for your repsonses. Apparently, the installation of the update to 8.1.2 was incomplete. I started the program from the Start menu just now and it automatically began to install the update (whereas when I double-clicked a pdf file to start Acrobat, this didn't happen). After completion of the installation and a Windows restart, everything looks normal now.
