I've just downloaded the new Acrobat Reader 6.0 set up file. I'm currently
running ver 5.1.0, from 09/2002.

Can I install the new version and have it automatically replace the old
version? Or should I uninstall the old, and then install the new, or what?

What is the best procedure to minimze any configuration needs after the
install of 6.0? Possibly there will be some info on this after I start the
install of 6. but, I'd like to short circuit any installation headaches.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Keep your older version for now also. For some reason, some people are having problems getting 6.0 to load in XP... Like me.. Looking for an answer to that problem still

Thanks for the reply -

I'll do better that keep both. I won't install ver 6.0. Version 5 "ain't
broke,. so I won't fix it."

I would asume that ver 6 would take over the "pdf" association, and then I'd
just have to change it back to ver 5. Since I have XP, I'll wait until the
first patched version appears.

I have XP & after one hour+ of downloading 6.0 I get a message, "required system component wintrust.dll is missing" then the whole attempt is aborted. Tried it twice ... foolish ... wasted 2+ hours on line. AND, I can't find the proper site or page to ask or tell Adobe. Maybe I am the dll that is missing.

Try downloading reader from here
<http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/6.x/6.0/enu/AdbeRdr60_enu_full.exe>

BTW,
wintrust.dll should be located in the Windows\system32 folder. If that dll is missing you will be experiencing other problems.
