When I convert the Word document to PDF, the documents look different. The margins don't match, but more importantly, the last 2-3 lines of a page kicks over to the next page. Our IT person says it has to do with the print driver and that this is normal. I thought the purpose of a PDF document was to have an almost exact document as your Word document? So far, I've been editing my documents in Word with Adobe Distiller as my print option. This does work but once I print the document, I have to print it from PDF which I do not like. There has to be a way to remedy this. I need help!

Your IT person is correct. The same thing would happen if you switch between an ink jet printer and a laser printer when printing from Word. It has nothing to do with Acrobat or PDF. To maintain the look you want, select the Acrobat Distiller printer in Word then do a print preview. Adjust margins and layout in Word as you like, THEN make the PDF.

I think I have the solution you are looking for. I had the same problem with files sent to me by customers and obviously I don't have the same printer as they do but it still had to look like their hard copy. In word go to the tools menu and select options. A dialogue box will appear, select the compatibility tab. There are several check boxes in this tab. scroll down until you see "use printer metrics to lay out document" and clear the checkbox to disable this option before you layout your document. This should solve the problem you are having.

This very subject has been covered in the FAQs since their inception. That is why they are called FAQs.

This thing has been the problem since 2003, the year I was born. 20 years later, this problem is still with us and cannot be solved even in the Word app in iPad T^T

The best solution I found for this, is to use Adobe's free online converter.

So save your Word doc with the layout that you want, and then go here:
https://www.adobe.com/acrobat/online/word-to-pdf.html

When you use their tool, the PDF will have the same layout that you had in your Word document.
