I created a PDF Package in Acrobat 8. I chose to use the first document (a complex form)as the cover page. I did not realize that the default cover page would have told users that they need to use or upgrade to the free Reader version 8 which I've had to send a separate e-mail to inform them.
Subsequently we made substantial upgrades and saved the package several times over. Now it seems that the form exists only as a cover page and can't be accessed as a separate PDF.
For example, I deleted all files but the cover page and saved the package PDF with only the now "cover page" within. I then attempted to add the package PDF to a new package hoping that the cover pages would revert to a separate document but it doesn't work. I cannot free my much changed form from the status of "cover page" to a distinct PDF document.
Help!
If AA8 Pro is like AA6 and AA7 Pro, you can use FILE>Reduce File Size or Advanced>PDF Optimize to save to a previous version. However, any AA8 only features will be lost or approximated (maybe) with a variation of the prior version.
thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, neither method had any effect. The Advanced > PDF Optimize fails as the "Cover Page" is apparently backward compatible to all versions of Acrobat.
I still end up with a Package containing only the form "cover sheet" and no separable PDF document. I've saved all the way back to Acrobat 4 compatible but still I am unable to add the form to a new PDF.
I've tried to save the "cover page" to Acrobat 4 compatible form. Then combine it with a blank page PDF document but I et nothing but the blank page as a result.
The File > Reduce File Size is not in Acrobat 8. I will try to install Acrobat 7 on another computer and see if it has the Reduce File Size command. But I fear that the "cover page" designation is not accessible by normal means.
Anyone with any experience with this?
In general, a package opened in earlier versions of PDF might make the
package elements available as attachments.
