I'm in the same situation. If "Save As" doesn't work, I don't know what else to do. We finally took one document and busted it into parts and put in on the Web that way.

I'm having this problem, too. I just scanned in my first 20-page document and it's 16 MB!!! I need something I can email.

I did find a help document about reducing file sizes at <http://studio.adobe.com/learn/tips/acr5reducepdf/main.html>.
But it's not helping me reduce the file I already created, so now I think I have to start over.

Is it just me, or is Adobe's "Getting Started" brochure less than useful?

Me again ...

I just created a new document and scanned one page after adjusting the settings as the above help page suggests. But my file is 983 KB -- for one page!

Somebody, please help us.

Has anyone tried searching this forum? There are many different reasons for large file sizes, and many depend on your program version(s), the job options you set, your conversion methods, etc.

This topic has been discussed many times in the forum, and may provide useful information for you, so it might help if you look for ir first -- then you'll have a better basis to start from, if you're still having problems or questions.

(After a while, it can become difficult to start from the beginning whenever such a topic comes up, because of the variety of issues or misunderstandings people have. If you do the favor of looking first, and tell us what you looked for and/or found, as well as other specific details about your computer, software, and methods, the process is better for everyone.)

Uh, actually, I did search this forum. Perhaps I don't know the magic keywords.

As I mentioned, I did find the tip sheet, "Reducing the Size of Adobe PDF Files." I tried to follow the directions therein to the best of my abilities, but it didn't work for me.

I had hoped to find some help here in the User Forums, but apparently I'm too stupid for this crowd.

I find this tip by Ted Padova at Pdf Zone try it...

AcroTip No.61 - Redistilling for Smaller File Sizes

By Ted Padova

Tip originally appeared in 101 Acrobat 5.0 eTips and Techniques.

Acrobat’s Optimize for Fast Web view will create pointers for common background data instead of embedding all the data separately on each page.

If, however, you create separate PDF files and join them by inserting pages, the data on individual pages will be unnecessarily duplicated.

The document you are viewing uses a master page item from QuarkXPress. If I print each page separately to PostScript and distill all the separate files, then merge them in a single PDF, the file size will be more than 20 times larger than a single file distilled in Acrobat Distiller.

To resolve a problem when it’s necessary to create separate pages, combine them all in a singe PDF, then select File > Save AS > PostScript File. Redistill the resultant PostScript file in Acrobat Distiller with the Job Options needed for your output. The final file will be much smaller.
