I'm using Acrobat 5.05 and have not had a problem printing this particular document before. Now I get ERROR: invalidaccess OFFENDING COMMAND: def then it says, STACK and half a page of .notdef and /a1 etc. At the end of the page is /Encoding
false
-1
/Zapfdingbats
/n329
-mark-
-savelevel-

What could I have possibly done to cause this in this one document? The only thing I changed were the font size and deleted some text in my javascript.
Any suggestions are welcomed.

Is this from Distiller, or when printing from Acrobat?

I also have probelm with printing. Im using Acrobat Distiller 5.0 (on WinNt 4 Service Pack 6) to print reports from Uniface(4GL-development tool) to PDF-Files. It works fine but from time to time the application crashes during the print process and all I get is a log file in the output directory of the acrobat distiller printer. The crash is not reproduceable. The content of the file is:

%%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
%%[ Error: syntaxerror; OffendingCommand: --nostringval-- ]%%

Stack:
-mark-
21690
5

%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%

Any idea?
Thanks for your help

any ideas or solutions?

thank you,

Now, those are unusual symptoms - the fact that it works again after a
while. Does it work if you immediately switch off the printer, then
on again?

no, even when we shut the printer off after the first one goes through it doesn't work.

I was able to do a work-around when I had this problem making a pdf from my art program. When I go to print, my computer has the option "adobe pdf" which led to the error message, but also has the option "microsoft print to pdf" and that ended up working out.
