Acrobat 6 - converting Excel Spreadsheet to PDF

When converting an Excel spreadsheet (Office 2003) to PDF format Acrobat 6.0, using either:

1. Create Files-->From Multiple File in Acrobat or
2. Adobe PDF button-->Convert to Adobe PDF in Excel

there is a black box that appears over the top of the range or spreadsheet that is converted. I have found I can then use the Touchup Object Tool on the Advanced Editing toolbar to select the black box and delete it. The spreadsheet is then ok.

But, in Excel, if I select File-->Print-->Adobe PDF the spreadsheet will convert as expected - just fine.

Any ideas why the black box appears in the first example?
