I receive the above error message when attempting to open some pdf documents. Running Windows 2000. Problem exists whether I use Reader 3.0 or 5.0. Suspect problem may be in the operating system font directory, but I don't know what font could be causing it--missing? corrupted?

I have never heard of that error happening with anything other than Reader 3.x.

Why do you even have that on your system? Get rid of it and see if that fixes it.

Getting rid of 3.x doesn't help. In fact, it STARTED with 5.0. 3.x was loaded just as a test to see what would happen. Same error message.

It now appears that the problem is related to Adobe Acrobat 3.0 which I use to create PDF files.

You didn't use Acrobat to create that file. It was created by exporting to PDF from InDesign which causes all of the fonts to be converted to CID format. Try printing to a PostScript file from InDesign, then use Acrobat Distiller to convert to PDF. Do you still get errors from that?

BTW I had no problem opening the file in Win2K using either Acrobat 4.05 or 5.05.

Here is a pdf that exhibits the problem:
<http://www.worthco.com/fish/pdf/page33.pdf>

It now appears that the problem is related to Adobe Acrobat 3.0 which I use to create PDF files. The reader works if I uninstall Acrobat and visa versa. I would like to fix this problem without having to upgrade Acrobat since it otherwise works, and I don't like the idea of companies forcing upgrades in situations like this.

Any suggestions?
