I've read the information below, but I still need the original 6.0 installer disk, since our original 6.0 update CD doesn't work.
Help!!
IMPORTANT INFO
The updater requires the original Acrobat 6.0 installer. Make sure you have access to the installer, which is available on the Acrobat 6.0 CD, or may be available to you through a local or network drive in your organization. You will be asked to insert the CD or browse to the location of the Acrobat 6.0 installer files.
There are upgrade CDs - different thing. These just require you to
verify ownership of older versions.

The Adobe website shows an upgrade version as well ... not just an upgrade price.
What can I do now. Please help!
- Thanks, Karthik.

Update= smallish file (but can be big) that can be freely downloaded from a website to patch up a version of an application.
For example 6.01 update, updates/patches acrobat 6 to 6.01, this will overwrite file already on the system.
Upgrade= is payable upgrade from a previous version of the software to the current version. I.e. you upgrade from version 5 to version 6.
The upgrade is a full version of the Adobe software, but does contain a system that checks for legal previous versions. I.e. it doesn't overwrite any files from the previous version.
This has always been the case with Adobe.
When updating version 6 to 6.01 the 6.01 update installer will ask you for the location of the msi file (and the file itself as well) from which you installed Acrobat 6 from. If this was from your cd-rom drive Acrobat 6.01 updater will expect the 6.0 cd-rom to bwe in there. If it was from a network install it will expect the location of the network folder from which Acrobat 6 was distributed.
If you no longer have access to the original installer contact either your system administrator in case of a network install or Adobe customer services.
I can't remember the file name it was seeking, but I searched for it on the disk and my hard drive and couldn't find it.
I appreciate your comments, but the problem still exists.
I understand when you say, "When updating version 6 to 6.01 the 6.01 update installer will ask you for the location of the msi file (and the file itself as well) from which you installed Acrobat 6 from. If this was from your cd-rom drive Acrobat 6.01 updater will expect the 6.0 cd-rom to bwe in there." But the problem is when I put in the disk I used to upgrade to 6.0. It still asks for a file that's not on the upgrade disk.
I've tried to direct it to Adobe on my hard drive, but this doesn't seem to work either.

You can always try to remove Acrobat 6, re-install and update right after.
- Karthik.
Sorry I can't be of much help, but did you try giving a call to Tech Support? I just called and they enabled the "6.0 UPGRADE" download again and asked me try and point to this file when it asks for the '.msi' file. I'll try and let you know if I succeed.
In the meanwhile please give them a call.
- Thanks, Karthik.
I had to do the whole download thing because when I upgraded from 6.0 Standard to 6.0 Professional I bought the Download from Online Store. So I am assuming if you have the "6.0 Professional UPGRADE CD" and the AcroPro.msi listed in the root folder of the CD, it should work.

(My company is considering buying several licenses for this program, but only if it can create PDF's from Visio files!)
thx...
When did you download the try out version? It would make sense if the current try-out version comes with the patch already installed. If you had downloaded the tryout version before the patch release, try downloading and doing a fresh install. If that doesn't work please call the tech support, they might not want to loose a customer just because "6.0.1 update won't work on the tryout version".
- Karthik.
Just curious where you found the information about 6.0.1 not working with the tryout version. Could you please share that info with us?
Thanks, Karthik.
I saw a message somewhere on the Adobe web site stating there was no Tech Support for the "Tryout" version. But, I'll give it a shot -- what's the number?
In any event, I agree that it's quite possible that my "Tryout" version is already patched. I was just trying anything to see if I could get the Acrobat to PDF-ize a Visio file.
(By the way, my steps for trying to create a PDF from a Visio file were: From Acrobat Professional menu:
File/Create PDF/From File.../<Visio filename>
Is there a different/better way, OR, SHOULD I POST THIS QUESTION AS A SEPARATE TOPIC.)
Thx again.
This is jut a different way, that is less dependent on various configuration settings, beyond the control of Acrobat, being correct in you system.
Please be aware that the results you obtain from any PDF creation process can vary enormously in file size and suitability for subsequent use according to what settings you use. If you don't like the results you get, it's almost certainly a question of your Job Option settings rather than bad performance by Acrobat (which is not unheard of as witness the posts on this forum).
Good Luck

It's easy enough to check. Just use Help > About and check the
version shown (it will be 6.0 or 6.0.1).

The updater should also say it can't find a version of Acrobat 6 to update.
