Hi,
We have a pdf file, which has list boxes, check boxes etc when "user" gets the file, they can select the lists or check the boxes or fill in some text and save it should retain the modified file.
Can a user with pdf reader do this above mentioned task or every one must have pdf writer to achieve this?
Thanks

In order to save a modified PDF file, a user must have Acrobat Standard, Pro, or Approval. There is no such program as "pdf writer."

There are exceptions such as a user filling out a form created with Reader Extensions, but that's an expensive server product that isn't practical for most non-govenrment or non-corporate users.

There's no version of Reader that, on it's own, can save a file. You could look at say Acrobat Approval (PDF 1.4 only), or <http://www.readersave.com/> that offers a product that supports saving in a way that's not supported by Adobe. Or if volume of users and forms permits consider Adobe Document Server with Reader Extensions (circa $75,000 for entry level). Otherwise search www.planetpdf.cpm or www.artspdf.com for alternative packages.
Cheers

That's not exactly true, Reader 5.1 or 6 can save files if the PDF was created by the Document Server with Reader Extensions.
