I was been happily creating documents when someone at work said, did I know these documents weren't printing right, there's all this stuff on them -and my peaceable work life was suddenly anything but.

All I have to do is create ANYTHING, whether in Illustrator or ID2, and the PDF can't be printed by anyone except me, and even I can't do it on some printers.

I am totally stumped. The only clue I have is this:

I create a one sentence file with one font (in either AI10 or ID2)
I create a PDF
The PDF shows 2 fonts with the same name, both True type. One is encoded "windows" the other is encoded "macroman".

Does anyone reading this have any idea what is going on? You could really save me some trouble.

Thanks
Mike

Does this happen with one or more fonts?

I have had this same problem. I was told (by a reliable? source) that it was a memory issue. If your system resources are low or the network printer is bogged down, the font changes. The fonts used most frequently when PDFs are created here are Helvetica, Arial, and Times New Roman. And the font usually changes to Dingbats. I can usually make the PDFs print correctly eventually. Not a real timesaver but I don't know of a solution.
I've also had PDFs print without any spaces. That seems to be a Post Script issue.

De Siem - it happens with all fonts.

D Shaffer - when I print some PDF's I produced some months ago, they come out fine. That suggests resources are not the problem here.

However, I always get a good print on the non-networked printer attached to my computer.

I just looked, and my Windows-Fonts folder has 594 font files in it. Could this be too many? Should I get ATM Deluxe or some other program like it?

Thanks
Mike

Mike,

It is possible that it could bve the printer driver(s). Try clicking the Print As Image box in print setup. If that works, it is the printer driver and if it's an HP printer, there are no new driver to date.

And yes, you really should have a font management program if you have anywhere near 100 fonts, let alone almost 600.

Be sure you embed the fonts.
