Implies that you are trying process Word documents directly with Distiller. That won't, and never did, work. Distiller only accepts PostScript as input. Try printing to PDF from Word instead.

System Info:
Windows 2000
Adobe Reader 5.0.5 with Distiller 5.0.5

Problem:
Distiller has worked fine for months, then stopped working when I installed Acrobat 6.0 reader. I uninstalled 6.0 reader and Distiller now fails to create PDF files from Word and Excel. I tested the same documents that I previously converted to PDF, so the problem isn't the documents.

Windows doesn't seem to know that Reader and Distiller 5.0.5 are installed, because when I attempt to install an update the update fails with a message that it doesn't find the prereq product.

I used the Knowledgebase document "Troubleshoot problems with Acrobat PDFMaker (5.0)" (Filename 2b131.htm) and have the following results:
1. Error message from Distiller log:

%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: ÐÏ à¡± á ]%%

%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
2. I downloaded the PostScript printer driver from Adobe, but when I try to print to a file from within Word and use this driver, a .ps file extension isn't provided so I can't create a PostScript file.

I've reviewed several forum and Knowledgebase items but am stuck at this point. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I expect the easiest way to resolve this is to reinstall Acrobat Reader 5.0 since that includes Distiller/PDFMaker. If that's on the Adobe site I haven't found it.

Or, if Acrobat Reader 6.0 includes Distiller/PDFMaker I haven't found it.

Thank you.

Should not be necessary. Use the Distiller printer driver.

No, Acrobat Reader does NOT include Distiller/PDFMaker. What included
these is Acrobat - just Acrobat. Reinstall it from CDROM.

Similarly, Reader 6.0 does NOT include PDF creation tools. Acrobat 6.0
Professional and Acrobat 6.0 Standard do.

Hello:
I'm very new, and I am using Adobe Photoshop 6.0 on Windows Home XP because I thought it would convert my MS Word and Excel files to .PDF format.

Does anyone know how that can be done?

Thanks in advance!

Not with Photoshop. You need to buy Adobe Acrobat.
