I'm using IE5.5 and Acrobat Reader 5.1. I link to a pdf and it opens in a seperate browser window. I then close the window and AcroRd32.exe remains in the task list. When I link to another pdf, AcroRd32.exe launches another process. This continues a couple of times and then locks up trying to launch the browser window. I have to kill the processes (AcroRd32.exe) from the task list to continue viewing documents. Also, If I view a document in the browser window, print it and close the window the next time I try to view a document in a seperate window I lock up while launching the seperate window.

I have the same issue with printing a batch of PDF's. Have you found a cure for this problem?

Thanks

I have a similar problem, when I send a print job from a 3rd Party app using acrord32 /t filename \\printeserver\printername the job prints but the acrord32 exe's stay on the server until I kill them. Any suggestions will be be tested.

Hi everybody,
system here: WIN2K SP3, AcrobatReader5.05. I惴 having the same problem while viewing a PDF through IE6.0. After closing thr Browser Window and even after closing IE, An instance of AcrobatReader is still running in the background. Why won愒 AcrobatReader close itself, when closing a Browser-PDF...???

I too have had a similar problem.

I can open, maybe, 2 PDF files and then when I try to open the next the screen goes white as if it is about to display, the 'Done' message comes up and then nothing.
The browser 'sticks' and I then have to close and restart it and the whole sequence starts again.

Sometimes it happens after one file - other times after perhaps 3.

I am running Acrobat Reader 5.0 and IE 5.50 on a Windows 2000 machine.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Reader but this has not solved the problem.

Aandi, I'm not using a server.

Running Windows2000 with IE 6 and Reader 5.1. A window is open with links to various PDF file. Click on a PDF file and a separate window is opened to display the PDF file. Close the window before the file is completely loaded and then in the main window click on another link, etc.

At some point the child window does not close, but just goes white. The Task Manager shows IE as compute bound (i.e. using all available CPU).

So... Is the problem Reader or IE?
Either IE can't handle the close or Reader.

IE 6.0, AR 5.1, Windows ME

Same problem.

Gee, it's been more than a month since the first post. Perhaps someone from Adobe could at least fake interest?

Think I figured out the problem. Just now removed AR, only to discover that the uninstall wasn't complete. Manually deleted all references, reinstalled fresh, and it works fine. Probably just a corrupt file.

I take it back. After a few hours, I discovered the same problem again.

I had this problem on XP with IE6 with Adobe Acrobat installed. Once I uninstalled Acrobat (but kept Distiller and the Reader), the problem went away. If you don't have Acrobat installed, then I guess your issue is different.

Oh... and although Aandi Insten(sp?) is quite knowledgeable, he's notorious for giving worthless answers; brief and with no offered solution. Around the office, his answers give us quite a laugh.

Perhaps this is better stated: "Acrobat is not designed for use..."
