Outlook Express from Windows XP, when receiving mail with PDF attached, most of them are gray, so I can't open/save them.
Allways from same senders!

Some mail with PDF from people work well !
Tried severall versions of Acrobat reader.

Are you working inside a company with central IT control? If so, talk
to IT, their policies are probably at work.

Tom, sorry for second question, I'll try
to find the solution in Outlook Express.

Aandi, no control on downloads.

Probably setting in Outlook Express,
the file is received but can't save/view it.

Ok, I also have the same problem with .pdf files being disabled in Outlook Express. I have searched the forums and did not find the answer. Would someone be able to post the link to this issue that was answered before.

Thank you,

Deb

In OE go to Tools --> Options --> Security tab: select the first radial ("less secure but. . . "); uncheck "Do not allow attachments to be saved . . ."; click Apply; click OK; close your browser. When you re-open it the .pdf files should no longer be grayed out. Good luck.

Likely you downloaded the latest version of Internet Explorer which contains Outlook Express. Microsoft just made Outlook Express "more secure" by making a new setting in Tools - Options - Security called "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus." Either the user uses it 100% (default is enabled) or not at all. Well, guess what? That includes PDFs! Incredible. There is no way to edit or even view a list of blocked extensions. MS is either using very dumb programmers or very smart business; either way an outcry ought to be made to get them to make that blocked list viewable and editable.

As a modification to my earlier message:

Microsoft just made Outlook Express "more secure" by making a new setting in Tools - Options - Security called "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus." Either the user uses it 100% (default was enabled when first released) or not at all. Well, guess what? That includes PDFs! Incredible. If you don't want to turn off this new feature you'll have to go elsewhere to edit one of the 2 lists that Outlook Express examines. Go to Control Panel, Folder Options, File Types, click on "PDF" in the list, click Advanced, and uncheck "Confirm open after download".
