When I close out of a pdf file I get an illegal operation dialog box. The error reads: Acrord32 has caused an invalid page fault in module Acrord32.exe. I am using acrobat reader 5.0 and have uninstalled and reinstalled many time. Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Nancy

Nancy,

Next time you uninstall, delete your previous installer and download a new one, then install that. Reinstalling a broken Reader doesn't help.

Egbuna,

Unless you provide precise information on what problem you are having, no one here is going to be able to help you fix it. "It's broke" just won't cut it.

Tom,

Cooltype errors are covered in the FAQs.

Tom,
It is the same problem reported by others and that is with the "ACRORD32 ERROR". I believe this is the Topic of this part of the discussion. When I attempt to open Acrobat 5.1 I get a message that reads "Acrord32 has caused an error in <unknown>
Acrord will now close"
Let me know if this helps to understand the difficulty.

I have had this problem for some time now. I fixed it by uninstalling ALL Adobe instances via "Add/Remove Programs", then deleting the entire Adobe directory under C:\Program Files, then re-booting, then reinstalling. All better. This fixed the "plug in failed to initialize" and "Acrord32.exe caused an invalid page fault ..." problems.

I reinstall 6-7 times because of acrord32.exe error. I uninstall from Add-Romve than I delete everything in C:\Program Files as well as I use regedit and delete anything that related acrord32.exe. I guess Adobe(Acrobat) facing new problem on its product. And it is shame that we cannot get similar product that at this can force ADOBE to act more efficient. I read acrord32.exe error section and seems no one understand the problem. I was expecting that Adobe can slove its own mistake but I must be wrong. I hope I can get urgent reply to my question that WHY Adobe Acrobat cannot run. I have Win 2000 sp3 and as well as I am using MS VS .Net Enterprise and have install the framework. My previuos PC work fine untill Acrobat 5.1.

Keep waiting?

When I try to shut down windows [Windows ME] session, sometimes I used to get the following error message .. "AVToolTripView" Not responding... and I had to manually close it before the windows could shut down. After a long search I found out that this error message comes from Acrobat Reader, hence I tried to reinstall a newer version of the reader.

My Problem: Downloaded and installed Acobat Reader 5.1 in Windows Me. After download... "Plug in failed to initialze", error message. After reading the solution by Pete I went back and searched for Adobe folder - found 3, containing versions 4 and 5, also multiple downlaod managers[after each down load attempt, despite using the add remove program to delete these]. I manually deleted these folders. Then RESTARTED the computer.

Went back and downloaded Acrobat Reader 5.1 and reinstalled it. Presto... no more error messages. So if you have the following problems, then go delete ALL previous versions of Adobe reader and down load managers manually using file/folder search, and reinstall the Reader 5.1.

Problems that can be solved include:
1. AVToolTripView not responding, on trying to shut windows down in Windows ME.

2. After downloadng Reader 5.1, ... "The Plug in failed to initialize" error.

3. Acrord32 has caused an invalid page fault in module Acrord32.exe... error.

I did all you sugeested (uninstalled the previous version, downloaded a new one).
When trying to open, the usual Acrobat reader image appears, then the "problem" message pops up; when checking the error report details, it reads:
AppName: acrord32.exe AppVer: 5.1.0.216 ModName: unknown

That is the same problem with the previously installed version.
Adobe.nl (in the Netherlands) suggests to call a service number in the UK - but after 15 minutes waiting in line, someone teels you that "Adobe has the policy not to support Acrobat Reader ......." !!!!
What can I do - and thanks in advance for your help.

I think it's time for a complete housecleaning. Follow the instructions in the FAQ titled PackageForTheWeb/Corrupt Cabinet File Errors. It's extreme, and time consuming, but if followed explicitly, never fails to fix the problem.

Not being a professional what? It's not brain surgery, it's software.

Click you browser back arrow once. The fourth topic from the top is a link to the FAQs. Click it. Scroll down the list of FAQs until you see the title I referred you to.

OK, OK - but thanks anyway.

I did exactly as described (it all worked fine) but ................ the result remained the same.
Upon opening: immediate errot report.
Only this time, in error details, it read

"AppName:acrord32,exe AppVer 5.0.5.452 ModName :Unknown

(Before, it read 5.1.0.216 etc.)

So, I don't know any more tricks - do you?

Regards
René

Rene,

If you followed the instructions I provided in the PackageForTheWeb/Corrupt Cabinet File Errors FAQ, there is no way you would be getting the same error. Every time someone has said it didn't work, we later found out they skipped a step. It has been 100% successful since I posted it originally two years ago.
