I can't seem to be able to install Acrobat Reader 5.1 in Windows Server 2003. I tried from the web page bit it says that "there are not file to download at this time" when I chose Win2000/XP as platform. I also tried downloading the 9MB executable AcroReader51_ENU_full.exe but that one just decompress the contents of the package and sits there doing nothing (0% CPU usage).

Was anybody able to install it on Windows Server 2003?

Thanks.

Maybe this will explain it:

2.2. Server Use and Distribution.
2.2.1. Subject to the terms of this Agreement, you may install one copy of such Software on a computer file server within your internal network for the sole and exclusive purpose of using such Software (from an unlimited number of client computers on your internal network) via (a) the Network File System (NFS) for UNIX versions of Acrobat Reader or (b) Windows Terminal Services. Unless otherwise expressly permitted hereunder, no other server or network use of the Software is permitted, including but not limited to using the Software (i) either directly or through commands, data or instructions from or to another computer or (ii) for internal network, internet or web hosting services.

I guess that is refering to the use of the Software on server but in a client/server manner, I mean, via terminal services, for example. I wanted to use it on a server machine that I use as a workstation from time to time.

I don't remember what is the actual behavior but I believe one can install Acrobat Reader in a Windows 2000 Server machine and use it. I don't think installation will freeze or prevent that.

I my case I think it's more like the setup/install part of the package is expecting Windows version 5.0 (Win2k) or 5.1 (Windows XP). When it sees 5.2 (Win2k3), it probably doesn't know what to do! :)

Just a thought.

Thanks,
Bruno.

Ok, I think I foud out a way to get it to install. Try this:

1. Download the executable (AcroReader51_ENU_full.exe) and save it in your disk
2. Right click on it and choose Properties
3. Click on the Compatibility tab and check the "Run this program in compatiblity mode for:" box. On the drop down right below it, choose "Windows XP"
4. Click the OK button and double click on the executable

That did the trick for me. Now I have Acrobat Reader 5.1 installed on Windows Server 2003.

Thanks,
Bruno.
