By searching through here I can see that this font embedding issue is a rough one. I am trying to create a PDF from Quark 4 with distiller 3.02. and i am getting the following error:
CenturyGothic-Italic not found, using Courier.
%%[ Error: invalidfont; OffendingCommand: findfont ]%%
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%

any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!

Ok, the key line here is the first one:
CenturyGothic-Italic not found...

Distiller can't find the font. The way for Distiller to find the font
is to make sure it is included in the PostScript file.

1. Be sure you are NOT using SAVE PAGE AS EPS.

2. In Page Setup be sure to use Font Inclusion: all or similar option.

Aandi-
Thanks! Actually what i ended up doing is installing the Adobe 8.5.1 driver and the distiller PPD and that comes SO close to working then as the PDF is being created distiller gets stuck at 91% and it says can't find helvetica using courier. funny thing is i am not even using helvetica in my document. font inclusion is set to all. any other suggestions? THANKS SO MUCH! this is SOOO frustrating!

If the message is "can't find Helvetica" this is unusual.

(The message "can't embed Helvetica" is more usual).

QuarkXPress may use Helvetica even if you don't.

First, if you have a font manager do NOT let it manage your entire
disk. Do NOT remove anything in Distiller's or Acrobat's font folders.
Do NOT move Acrobat folders between disks or computers.

Distiller needs to be able to find its fonts. Try this trick I heard
recently. Start Distiller, and go to Settings > Font Locations.
Remove ALL folders from the list, OK and quit Acrobat. When you start
again, it should now include the right folders. However, this won't
help if you let a font manager move the fonts; in that case, reinstall
Acrobat.
