Using Acrobat 5.0.5, I went to change info in footers of 117 page document and got: "Warning: The multi-byte font selected is not installed on your system. You cannot edit text in this font."

I created the original document in InDesign 2.0.2 and used ID's Export to PDF to make the PDF. The fonts are on my computer (using Suitcase to activate) and are active as I try to edit the PDF.

(Making the changes in the original document, then make a new PDF is not an option because programmers have already created numerous links in the PDF.)

Can this be fixed, or did I mess up when I created the PDF?

Running 10.2.4

The font is CID encoded - therefore Acrobat does not recognise the font as a editable' font.

If you get Enfocus Pitstop - you can delete the CID font - and replace with the live one on your system

You can (and probably should) make changes to the source document and replace the old pages with the new (Document > Replace Pages). This operation will retain any annotations (links, bookmarks, form fields, articles, etc.) that exist.

I found a way to get Acrobat to recognize the font (Adobe Frutiger). The warning said the font was not installed on "your system" -- so assuming Suitcase was the problem I moved the font to different folders trying to get Acrobat to recognize it. It finally worked when I put the fonts into the Applications > Adobe Acrobat 5.0 > Resource > Font folder. So it can be done.

However, making the changes this way makes the files much larger, and I was afraid if I used Save As it might break the links. So, since George confirmed I could use the Replace Pages without breaking the links, I will use his more elegant solution to the problem. Thanks.
