Hello,

In the ADNI merged dataset, patients are diagnosed as either EMCI (Early Mild Cognitive Impairment) or LMCI (Late Mild Cognitive Impairment) at baseline, and these patients may later convert to Alzheimer's disease. However, in the column indicating diagnosis for each visit, patients are labeled simply as MCI, without distinguishing between EMCI and LMCI, effectively grouping them together. This raises the question: Does the ADNI database contain information on patients who have converted from EMCI to LMCI during the course of their follow-up?

Hi Amna,

EMCI and LMCI were used at screening to ensure we had a spread of impairment within the MCI group, although they are all considered MCI (and so later diagnoses do not distinguish between the two). You can refer to the protocol documents to see the definitions of EMCI and LMCI and create your own EMCI/LMCI classifications at later time points.
