Hi everyone,

I would like to know if there is any difference between 18F-FDG and FDG. Which one is used the most commonly? Also, can anyone help explain the difference beyween AV45 and AV1451? I searched on the ADNI website but can not get satisfying answers.

Thanks a lot !
Grace

Hi Grace,

18-F FDG and FDG refer to the same thing. Because there is one commonly used ligand for FDG-PET (an 18-F radioligand), you can simply say FDG to describe it.

AV45 (also called florbetapir) is an 18F ligand for amyloid PET scans, so the AV45 results tell us something about amyloid in the brain. AV1451 (flortaucipir) is an 18-F ligand for tau PET scans, so these results tell us something about the tau in the brain.
