Initial Health ADNI3 - Coding

Hello, we would like to include information on diabetes and hypertension in our analysis using data from the ADNI 3 cohort. We figured out that this information is available in the initial health data sheet. However, we could not find any information on the labelling of the "IHNUM" variable, which represents the condition a person is suffering from. Does anybody have access to this list/the coding?

Hi Merle

 

IHNUM is just a count of the health conditions (so the max value for a participant for a visit, should correspond to the number of rows for that person for that visit in the Initial Health table). You’ll need to look at some of the other variables (such as IHSYMPTOM) to get more information (coding for that variable, for example, is in the data dictionary).

Hi Daniella,

thanks for your reply. I actually don't think that it is the number of conditions for the visit. I just looked up a couple of patients and the numbers do vary within each visit. Please see attached one example. I filtered IHSYMP for Cardiovascular, Endocrine and Smoking. Now I would like to figure out, who of those individuals in ADNI3 have hypertension or diabetes or smoke. As far as I understood that must be contained in IHNUM. IHDESC does not exist anymore as ADNI removed all written information.

Hi Daniella,

thanks for your reply. I don't think that IHNUM is the count of the health condition. I attached one example of one subject for one visit m120 in 2017.

I filtered IHSYMP for Cardiovascular (4), Endocrine Metabolic (9) and Smoking/Alkohol (14). If we have a look at Endocrine Metabolic (9), then this subject has IHNUM 5,1, and 14. 

In a different chat, I found that IHNUM=4 equals Hypertension. However, I cannot find any information on the other numbers.

Any information concerning this is highly appreciated!
