Hello everyone,

I am working with ADNI resting-state fMRI data and had a question regarding how researchers typically match rs-fMRI scans with T1-weighted anatomical MRI scans for preprocessing.

In ADNI, for a single subject and visit, there are often multiple T1-related scans available, such as:

  • MPRAGE

  • MPRAGE SENSE

  • MPRAGE REPE

  • MT1

  • N3m

  • Scaled / Mask variants

For fMRI preprocessing (e.g., using fMRIPrep/SPM/FSL), I understand that a corresponding T1 anatomical scan is needed for registration and normalization. However, I am unsure:

  1. Which T1 variant is generally preferred in ADNI studies?

    • Raw MPRAGE?

    • MT1/N3 corrected images?

    • MPRAGE SENSE?

    • Other?

  2. What is the recommended strategy for matching rs-fMRI scans with T1 scans across a large cohort (~1100 subjects)?

    • Match by VISCODE?

    • Acquisition date?

    • Closest age?

    • Same visit/session?

  3. Is there any standard or published workflow commonly followed by ADNI researchers for this pairing process?

I would really appreciate any guidance, best practices, or references from people who have worked with ADNI rs-fMRI data before.

Thank you!
