ADNI3 IHNUM Who has diabetes and hypertension

Hello,

for some reason my answer to Danielle gets deleted. So I am trying this way again.

Danielle suggested that IHNUM in the ADNI3 Initial Health Sheet is the count of conditions. I don't think that's true as the number varies within one visit and is somehow linked to IHSYMP. I am trying to find out who has hypertension, is smoking and has diabetes. Therefore, I already filtered the IHSYMP for Cardiovascular (4), Endocrine Metabolic (9) and Smoking/Alcohol (14). As IHDESC was removed last year, only IHNUM remains to figure out who has which condition, as far as I understood from reading other chats. In one chat it was mentioned that IHNUM=4 equates to hypertension.

Does anyone know the coding for diabetes or smoking status in ADNI3? The Medical History sheet does not contain all subjects as some were newly enrolled in ADNI3.

Hi Merle,

 

If you look within a visit for a participant, you will see IHNUM ranges from 1 to the number of rows (when I downloaded the file, it was not sorted, so the order does not always start at 1). Think of IHNUM just as a counter…the first condition mentioned will have 1, the 2^nd condition mentioned will have 2, etc. Since not all participants mention these in the same order, IHNUM and the associated IHSYMP will not always align (IHNUM really has no meaning other than to be one of the many conditions someone reports).

 

I believe the Medical History information for ADNI-3 should be released sometime soon – the text fields have been checked for PHI.
