Dear All,

I am Lijun, a Ph.D. student from the National University of Singapore.

I am using ADNI to do some harmonization projects and need to find the sites/scanners information of subjects from in ADNI dataset.

However, I could not find the corresponding information from the I ADNI study data downloading page, do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

I really appreciate your help!

Hi Lijun,

If you have participant ID (format XXX_S_XXXX), the numbers before the “S” correspond to the site ID, while the numbers after the S correspond to the RID. Note that some of the csv files available for download on the Study Data page have a variable called “Site” which may not correspond to the site ID (I ignore the Site variable and just use information from the participant ID).

If you are using the original scans (downloading from the IDA), you should be able to get the Manufacturer and specific model of the scanner either through the search (requesting that information to be displayed) or possibly in the DICOM header. You can possibly use the csv file you can download from a specific search to then merge with other files (by IMAGEUID or one of the other image id variables).

Hi Danielle,

Thanks for your quick response. I am wondering even "003_S_XXXX" are collected from 'site 003' for example, we can not assume all MRI images of   "003_S_XXXX" were scanned using the same scanner right? We could only get scanner information from DICOM header file.

By the way, could I get the subject naming rule from ADNI manual PDF ?

Thanks for your help again. Hope you are your family are doing well during COVID-19 :)

Best Regards,
An Lijun

Hi An (sorry for addressing earlier email to Lijun!),

That is correct, “003_S_XXXX” will be from site 3, but we know that there were a variety of changes that have happened over the course of ADNI (some scanner changes (across manufacturers or different models within the same manufacturer), some software changes, etc. These changes are not unexpected given the length of the ADNI study (started back in 2004).

I’m not sure I understand your question about the subject naming rule, so please clarify!

As I’m sure everyone is worldwide, I can’t wait for this pandemic to be more under control…but we are all hanging in there! Hope you are well also!

Hi Danielle,

Thanks for your reply.

I mean that I could get information from the ADNI manual (see here http://adni.loni.usc.edu/methods/documents/). For an example of subject "003_S_XXXX", could I know where is "site 003" referring to?

Thanks again.

Best Regards,
An Lijun

Hi An,

Since sites recruit a limited number of participants, we have not made the linkage between site number and the site name public that I am aware of….but you can assume that everyone with IDs of the form ‘003_S_XXXX’ are all from the same site (site 003).
