Hi Xin,
You as a researcher can make a decision as to how you want to select a scan when more than one is available for a person at a visit.
For example, you can opt to use the one with the better series_quality, or if they have the same quality, define a process by which you will select one.

Subject: [adni-data] Re: ADNI3 screening visit and repeated scans
For example, when both scans had SERIES_COMMENTS of "motion", SERIES_QUALITY of 3, and STUDY_RESCAN_REQUESTED as FALSE -- what is the recommended approach here?

Hi Everyone
I have two questions about ADNI3 data, and hope someone can help clarify:
Question 1: ADNI website states this "New participants are initially assessed at a ‘screening’ visit and if not excluded (due to inclusion/exclusion criteria or lost to follow-up), they will move to a ‘baseline’ visit to complete additional assessments/study tasks." So what about participants with screening scans only and no baseline, year 1 visit etc (ADNI3 doesn't seem to have any "baseline" visits though)? Should they still be included in any analyses or excluded?
Question 2: ADNI3 manual stated that "A request for a repeat MRI may be required in the event that the scans are found to be unacceptable due to subject motion or an incomplete/incorrect MRI acquisition ... Mayo Clinic ADIR QC team will check all ADNI3 MRI scans to be sure that the exam was conducted on the one scanner qualified for ADNI3 at your site was used, and that the correct, electronically loaded sequences have been used to scan each subject. Repeat exams may also be required if the incorrect scan sequence, orientation, or angulations are used. It is imperative to use the ADNI3
approved acquisition sequence with every ADNI3 subject. Scans with image degradation due to the incorrect scan sequence, orientation, or angulations will NOT be reimbursed nor will scans acquired on any scanner other than the one qualified for ADNI3. Re-scans will be reimbursed if the correct scan sequence, orientation, and angulations were used."
I don't see any documentation of reasons behind each repeated scans. I can therefore assume the repeated scans are always at least of the same quality, if not better, than the first scans? If not what is the recommended approach to treat them in ADNI3?
Thank you!
Xin
