It looks like Monday is going to be a Bluebird of a day! Join us to paddle Canadice Lake.
We will paddle along the shoreline of the lake - it takes just about 2 hours. I suspect the group will stop at the half way point for snacks and drinks.
The launch site is the DEC boat launch at the north end of the lake. Take rt. 15A through the hamlet of Hemlock traveling south. Go past the end of Hemlock lake, keep going on rt s15A You'll turn left on Purcell Hill rd. At the end of the road turn right on Canadice Lake Rd and watch for the DEC kiosk on the right (maybe a mile or so). You can drive down to the lake to unload your boat and gear, then drive up to the road to park. If fishermen are using the launch also - we'll keep our boats over to the right of the shoreline.
Howland Island Paddle
Join us for a full day paddle (10.5 miles) around Howland Island. The island is a state wildlife adjacent to Montezuma Wildlife Refuge. This is NOT a beginner paddle, as the distance requires a pace faster than the usual Monday chapter paddles....around 3 miles per hour on the average (Mondays average 2 miles per hour.) Plan on arriving back in Rochester LATE afternoon. Be sure to bring your lunch, snacks, water, rain gear, insect repellent, sunscreen, change of clothes "just in case". Dress for weather, and probable cold weather!
We will gather at the DEC fishing access site on route 5/20 across the street from the entrance to Montazuma Refuge headquarters. We will meet at 9:00 there and drive as a group to the put- in on the canal where it crosses Conquest St. It is important to be on time!, as this paddle will take most of the day.
Please be prepared to sign the ADK release of liability form.
