Tuesday Hike (Hybrid)-Mendon Ponds-Devil's Bathtub, West Esker & Hopkins Point
Tuesday Sep 16, 2025 ⋅ 9:45am – 12pm (Eastern Time - New York)
Region: Genesee Valley Region Type: Chapter Outings Activity: Hiking Posted by: Genesee Valley Chapter Trip rating: C Leader: Jim Bishop Contact Email: adk.gvc...@gmail.com
Two-hour hybrid hike in Mendon Ponds split between a 40-minute hike at a slower pace along the shoreline of Deep and 100 Acre Pond toward Hopkins Point, then a second hike at a faster pace with hills along Devil's Bathtub and on the West Esker Trail. Meet at 9:45am in the parking lot on Pond Road for Devil's Bathtub/Algonkian-Shelter for a 10:00am hike start. From the Pond Road entrance at Clover St (65) near the Nature Center & Wild Wings, drive a half-mile east into the park to the Devil's Bathtub/Algonkian-Shelter parking lot on Pond Rd, next to Algonkian Shelter and Deep Pond. Don't drive up the short drive to the Devil's Bathtub Shelter. This parking area is west of the intersection of Pond and Douglas Roads where some of our other hikes start from. Please dress for the weather, wear boots or trail shoes with good traction, bring some water to drink and some tick/mosquito repellent. Hiking poles would be helpful on the steeper sections. Contact Jim Bishop at adk.gvc...@gmail.com with any questions. Dogs are not allowed on this hike.
Our hybrid hike consists of 2 hikes that allow us to drop off hikers who prefer a 40-minute to 1-hour easier hike at a slower pace with less elevation change, then continue with the 2nd hike for the rest of the 2 hours at a faster pace with some short climbs. This allows all of us to keep hiking together, when some of our old and new friends need to shorten their hike or some are just starting back hiking after a time off or recovering from surgery.
You must read and sign the “club’s release of liability form” which will be available at the parking lot. NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS EVENT without signing a LIABILITY RELEASE FORM.
