READ CAREFULLY AND FOLLOW
OUR ADIWASI SALUTATION "JOHAR" !
1) WHAT IS "JOHAR"?(JOWHAR/JOUHAR)
'Johar means sacrifice. this is the word which link Fighter communities with each other. only fighter castes are associated with this...people who are ready to die for their esteem ;even though they lost battle ..they remind their bravery to enemy by saying 'johar'(I m ready to fight n sacrifice )'
2)"JOHAR" IN WARALKHAND :-FROM BOMBAY GAZETTEERS DEPARTMENT
(BY 'MASUDI' THE FOREIGN VISITER IN 915 A.D.)
'Masudi has a curious passage about the self-sacrifice which he says was then common among the people of the Konkan. When a man wished to burn himself he had first to get the king's leave. When leave was granted, while the pyre was being prepared, the victim passed through the streets with the sound of timbrels and cymbals, clad in silk, and attended by friends. His head was crowned with tuhi or sweet basil and shaved, and on it were placed burnt pieces of sulphur and gum sandarach. As he went he chewed betel-nut and betle-leaves. When he had made the circuit of the town he came back to the fire and threw himself into it. In one case of which Masudi was an eye-witness a young man, after making the round of the town, on coming to the fire stood before it without a sign of fear or uneasiness. He then seized a knife and ripped open his belly, put his left hand into the wound, grasped his liver, drew it out, cut it with the knife, handed it to one of his brothers, and leaped into the fire. It was usual, when a king died or was killed, for a number of persons who were known as 'Friends of the King' to burn themselves alive. It made one shudder to hear the stories that were told of the tortures and punishments which the Indians had imagined. They underwent these tortures because for every pain here they looked for a pleasure hereafter. Masudi Prairies d'Or, II, 85, 87. In connection with this passage of Masudi it is worthy of note that in some battle scenes, probably of about the same date, or a little later, near Shahapur in Thana men are shown leaping into a blazing fire.]. The language of the people was said to be Lari that is Gujarati [Gujarati may have then been the language of trade in Cheul as it now is in Bombay. References to Lar or Lat are given in Bombay Gazetteer, XII 57, note 1. The name survives in the Lad division of Vanis, Vanjaris and other castes, and perhaps in the local Maratha phrases Var-lat for inland Konkan, and Khallat for coast Konkan.]'.
3) "JOHAR" IN WIKIPEDIA :-
Practice[edit]

Jauhar is often described in terms of the women and children alone, but should correctly be understood as including the death of the men on the battlefield. Jauhar and saka involved:
A defending Hindu army being besieged inside a fortification by an invading Iranian or Muslim enemy army
The realization by the defenders that defeat was both imminent and inescapable
The realization by the defenders that the enemy army would capture women and children
The immolation, en masse, of women and young children to avoid dishonour of being captured by the invading army
The men of the besieged army riding out to a certain death on the battlefield
It was considered proper for the men to fight to the last breath when defeat became certain in a war but jauhar was committed to avoid capture and dishonour of royal women. When defeat at the hands of a more powerful enemy was imminent, the women, dressed in wedding finery, immolated themselves, then the men, bearing Kesariya Bana (saffron coloured dress), attacked the enemy. For men who had been raised their whole life as warriors, nothing was considered more honourable for the Rajput male than to fight and die on the battlefield. Though they might occur at different times jauhar and saka were always performed together.[citation needed]
Despite occasional confusion, this practice is not related to sati. While both practices have been most common historically in the territory of modern Rajasthan, sati was a custom performed by widowed women only, while jauhar and saka were committed while both the partners were living and only at a time of war. The practice of jauhar by the royal women may have led to rise of social practices like sati in the ensuing centuries where woman were forced to die on their husband's funeral pyre.
