As Florida continues to unravel, Wanda grows. Moving from childhood to adulthood, adapting not only to the changing landscape, but also to the people who stayed behind in a place abandoned by civilization, Wanda loses family, gains community, and ultimately, seeks adventure, love, and purpose in a place remade by nature.
The Light Pirate brings together the tension of natural disasters with the beauty of life. The book is divided into four parts with snippets of writings at the beginning of each part, musing about nature, time and storms.
After building a concrete picture, came the pain of the world breaking and the grief of losing people. Frida is not in the book long but the few pages for which I knew her, she was memorable. She had had a hard life, and lost her mother to a similar hurricane. When she met Kirby, she took a leap and found herself a step-mom to two young boys and pregnant with a girl. But when the storm comes, she is forced to bring Wanda into the world alone.
The Light Pirate is a brutal book. Nature wrecks havoc and takes away person after person. Its strength and unpredictability is harrowing and emphasized through the characters throughout the book. The world continues to change and with weather patterns being so destructive, governments start to withdraw from the places around the coast. Few people want to live there and with the population migrating to other places, eventually basic amenities like clean water, electricity, and the internet are all shut down.
What used to be a town in Florida that hurricanes used to hit becomes a swamp. I got a feel of Where the Crawdads Sing movie from The Light Pirate. There are silent and careful boat rides and oneness with nature that I distinctly remember from the movie.
There are many bitter realities in this book: the pain of losing loved ones, unfinished, empty memories because they passed away, distress because the world is changing too fast, marvel that it is changing, the strength to survive no matter what. There is a cat in this book too!
Ivan and Greg are in the city on their way to the post office when they notice a lamp post that has been knocked over with pudding. Greg deduces that it's the work of Pirate Robot, whom Ivan fears could be trouble since pirates are usually bad. Greg tries to reassure him that Pirate Robot is harmless, but Ivan nevertheless decides he must be stopped. That night, the Power Heroes meet up in Power Q. After seeing Pirate Robot flying over the city in his ship firing puddings, Gekko and Ice Cub take the Gekko-Mobile and head to Earth to intercept him.
They soon find and confront Pirate Robot, who is still shooting puddings at various objects. He claims it's just target practice, and Gekko tries to calmly resolve the situation by urging him to go practice elsewhere. However, this does little to convince Ice Cub that Pirate Robot means no real harm, especially after he gets hit by a stray pudding shot. Gekko tries to reason with him that it was an accident, but he ignores him and chases after the ship while firing snowballs. Pirate Robot spots the incoming attack and manages to deflect them, causing them to hit Gekko instead. While Ice Cub thaws out his teammate, Pirate Robot perceives his previous actions as a challenge to a duel. What follows is a battle where Ice Cub and Pirate Robot chase each other through the city, firing snowballs and puddings at each other. Unfortunately, Ice Cub's snowballs all miss the ship and end up freezing Catboy, An Yu and Owlette, who were in the process of stopping some Ninjalinos and the Wolfy Kids from robbing the museum and Comic Book Store, respectively; Gekko is also hit again as well. Only then does Ice Cub finally realize his actions have made the situation worse.
Pirate Robot takes the Spanner of the Skies into space, where he spots the new Power Q. He connects his ship to it and drains some of its power to give his ship a boost. On Earth, Ice Cub unfreezes his teammates and apologizes for not listening to Gekko. Pirate Robot then returns with his now supercharged ship, but with An Yu, Catboy, Owlette and Gekko all still feeling the effects of being frozen, Ice Cub is the only one that can stop him. He pursues Pirate Robot and tries to talk to him, but the latter now sees him as a threat and fights back. Once the other heroes have recovered enough, they join Ice Cub in helping him distract Pirate Robot so he can disable his ship with a huge iceberg in the moat. Pirate Robot surrenders and declares Ice Cub the winner of their duel. Now finally able to properly talk things out, the latter successfully convinces him to use the park for his target practice from now on. With their mission a success, the heroes then shout their victory cry.

This is the first time I have ever seen a game put a paid cooldown on a Loot Box. Both concepts are already highly controversial in the game market, and seeing them combined is a new wrinkle altogether.
Then, despite my better judgment, I checked out the store and its in-app purchases. $0.99 would get me 80 gems, and a quick skim through the store revealed that, if I wanted to buy a new character, I would have to pay 1,000 gems. Yes, my fellow mathematicians, that is roughly $13 per character.
And yet, I persevered, never paying a single gem to continue if I lost. I deluded myself into thinking that this extreme difficulty spike intended to push me towards the premium currency was a fun challenge and actually managed to eventually come out on top, like Batman victorious over a platoon of Banes.
Of course, once I beat up enough baddies, my treasure chest room was stuffed and I was not allowed to fight anything else until I had opened one. Yes, it wasn't that I had four slots to open chests with and then have a stash of them to the side, my capacity was four chests period.
Oh goody, another timer. Do they not understand how binge-watching works? This is a Netflix show for crying out loud! And on top of that, the reward on the reward chart next to the 10,000 gold was one for 20,000 gems!
That, and the whole thing is a lie. After the cooldown, I used another teaser clip that the game read as Episode 1 and cleared another skeleton-poking session. Despite the Purple Gem icon CLEARLY on the screen, the prize is actually 20,000 gold. No gems at all. Well that's disappointing.
From right to left: 10,512 gold, 2 Seafaring Shield cards (Boosts my ships health) and 2 Eye of Blazz cards.(A new Super Attack for my sword.) Neither any new characters nor anything to upgrade my starting character with.
Another feature I am aware of is that the toys also come with special coins that are meant to unlock more of these special cards to upgrade the characters with, so we also have out-of-app purchases for this game. Or worse, in-app purchases in a game that was meant to be supported by a toy line, the same sin that helped sink Playmation and Skylanders.
Is this how games launched in America are these days? Full of waiting and constant attempts to gouge for money while selling content in pieces that you have to pray you have enough gold to install? Have I been spoiled by the likes of Pokemon GO or One Piece Treasure Cruise (A FAR more entertaining Pirate game) which gives me oodles of content to indulge in, whose first five minutes turns into an hour or two without even being asked to spend a dime, and is generous enough with its premium currency that you can afford taking a deep dive into its shop or do a rare character draw regularly for free?
To have a game, let alone one aimed at kids, have such a harsh first five minutes, that erects such a huge brick wall in front of your progress unless you indulge in the premium currency (Or have my Mega Man Zero level of precision and patience) is very offputting.
I have to give the app props, though; it does accurately resemble a real pirate: pushy, rude, and constantly trying to plunder your finances by keeping your time and progress for ransom and promptly shoving you to the ground if you try to resist.
And I have since slept on it. I put my Gold Chest on Cooldown before bed and woke up to crack it open as well as a freebie chest they give you every six hours. The powerups inside(Healing items, super attack charge-up, and flaming cannonballs, along with 1 (one) Zak Card which brought him to level 2 (I now need five more to get him to level 3) have made the fights considerably easier. However, that just means it will take fewer tries and less time to plug the one empty treasure chest slot I have.
Most games at least give you something else entertaining that you can do while a cooldown is happening, whether it's revisiting prior content or carefully customizing characters, or participating in another sort of challenge, but this game literally locks you out of it until you pay money in order to do anything but float on the water and not land anywhere.
The number of pirate attacks off the Somali coast has declined considerably in recent weeks due to strong winds and storms with pirates reporting that at least six of their groups and six of their boats were lost at sea.
The six pirates groups from Harardheere, Hobyo, Garacad, Bargaal and Ceel Dhanaane area have still not returned from their hijacking missions, according to pirates who spoke to Somalia Report on Sunday.
Utterback often obtained his pirate attire at auction and had several key items from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies, including a ring, sword and the sash Johnny Depp used to characterize Jack Sparrow, Yost said.
Belinda Hadcock, who runs the Skeleton Crew Entertainment group at the Fort Myers Beach Pirate Festival and has spent time with Utterback in the past, said she was shocked when she learned about his death.
It seems almost too fitting of an end: The only boat on Big Bear Lake that has a liquor license has sunken, well, into the drink. The pirate ship tour boat sank under Winter Storm Titan's barrage of rain, snow and high wind in Southern California over the weekend.
