Files can house course files, assignments, syllabi, readings, or other documents, as well as profile pictures and user-specific files. Instructors can lock folders and files so they can only be viewed by direct links or only unlock on a specific date.

As an instructor, Files allows you to store files and assignments within Canvas. You can upload one or multiple files, view all details about your files, preview files, publish and unpublish files, set usage rights, and restrict access to files. Files is built with responsive design to adjust for browser scaling. The folder navigation window, file displays, and even file names adjust to the width of the browser window.

Did you know that you have a personal, private space in Canvas where you can view and manage all of the files that you have uploaded? To access your personal Canvas file storage area, click on Account (your profile picture) in the top left corner of Canvas, then click on the Files link.

You are trying to upload or attach a file somewhere in Canvas (perhaps a discussion in one of your courses), but you are getting an error message that indicates that you have exceeded your Canvas file storage quota. Not to worry! In your personal file storage area, you can delete any large files that you no longer need in order to free up file storage space.

Dear Chapman Students, Instructors, and Staff, Do you use the Google integration in Canvas to submit assignments, add files (Docs, Sheets, Slides) to modules and pages, or create collaborations? As announced in this November 6 communication, we now have two Google integrations in Canvas: the old Google Apps LTI and the new Google Assignments LTI

Canvas provides three separate types of file storage, each with 1000 MB of capacity. Depending on how you intended to use the files, you can choose to store files in personal file storage, course file storage, or group file storage.

1. To add files you have already uploaded to Canvas to a Page, Assignment, or Discussion, highlight where you want the file to be added and select Course Documents from the Documents icon on the formatting menu.

Canvas Files functions similarly to the file storage on your computer, allowing you to create folders and subfolders. If you save all of your Module 1 materials to a folder titled Module 1, you will be able to track down those files more easily when you are ready to share them.

Yes, you can upload files directly to a module or in the Rich Content Editor (e.g., an assignment prompt or page). But when you need to upload revised versions of those files, continuing to upload files this way results in multiple copies of that file.

You can upload multiple files at once, or even upload a zip file and then have Canvas expand it for you, creating a folder containing all those files. (You can also leave it as a zip file if you need students to access it this way.)

If you have the Canvas Teacher app installed on your smartphone, you can upload photos or videos from your device to your Canvas site. See instructions for adding files from iOS and adding files from Android.

Trying to regain access to a previously generated canvas file. So far it seems I should never close one because there is no way to find them again within Obsidian or open them from without. Everything is treated as a .md file.

I have two .root files including histograms. I got them from AIDA in geant4. For opening these files I need root.
I need to open these two files in one canvas in order to be able to compare them.
I am wondering should I write a c++ code for that or can I do it easily from the browser?
Really thank for your help

Canvas's default setting is to automatically allow your students to have access to ALL the items that you put into your Course Files. Our FSU course shell templates automatically hide the Course Files link on the course navigation menu from your students as we do not recommend allowing students access to the Course Files area. However, if you find that the Course Files area is available to students and you need to prevent students from accessing all of these files, simply hide the "Files" Course Navigation link in your course.

Okay, so this may sound like a bit niche & highly specific question, which it is. I wanna know if there is any way, that I can add a song into Spotify (as a local file) with the canvas, provided that I downloaded the canvas, if anyone has any idea on how to do this, it would be really great if you can lemme know!

If it is important that students be able to use the Files section of your course, you should place any sensitive materials in folders and restrict access at the folder level to control which files your students can and cannot view. To do this:

3. If you select Unpublished, the folder and all files contained in it will be invisible to students, even if the Files link is enabled. You can use this option for any files that you never want students to view.

This new tool enables the source code of a Canvas app to be effectively managed in GitHub or Azure DevOps. Diffs, pull requests, and comments can be based on lines of formula text rather than .msapp blob files.

Excited? These examples only scratches the surface of what is possible. By supporting text files, all the tools that you love and all the unique workflows that you have created can now be used with Canvas apps too.

Please do not convert all your .msapp files to source files and throw away the originals. We are working toward a day when you can do this, but that is not today. By far, Power Apps Studio is still the best place to edit a Canvas app. We are introducing a new way to manage and edit Canvas apps, a companion to Studio, not a replacement.

Not everything gets the YAML treatment. There are a number of app resources and settings that retain their original not-meant-for-humans treatment and are not intended to be edited outside of Power Apps Studio. The full directory structure and how to deal with merge conflicts in other files is outlined in the GitHub readme.

And finally, there are a set of files that the PASopa tool uses to ensure proper roundtripping of an app between .msapp and source files. It is safe to keep the latest version of these files if there is a merge conflict.

Play around with some of the settings when exporting the SW file (try multiple file outputs). Check the sizes of the different files and you might be able to figure out what setting works best to translate all the 3D parts. Then importing from SW, you might have to trial-n-error SW to make it 'realize' new parts. We've had issues when exporting to SW and not having an 'initial' design in SW. SW just didn't seem to understand it didn't have a source board in SW to translate NEW data into. Lots of trial-n-error.

The other question is that in the 3d canvas I have several parts set up with step files but every time I export the 3d pdf it exports the board and all of that information fine except it just places the black boxes from the package boundaries so when I send the rendering out it just has a bunch of boxes.

The easiest way to add files to your Canvas course is by uploading them from your computer or storage device. You can organize your files by creating folders first, and then upload your files directly into the folder. If you have uploaded files before creating folders, you can still create folders and move your files into the appropriate folders.

In files, subfolders cannot be deleted from the list of folders on the left-hand pane of the files menu. Instead, they must be selected from the list of files on the right-hand pane. To delete a file, you must open the overarching course folder and locate the subfolder within it.

Canvas is limited to a maximum file size of 500 MB for media files in assignments. Often times, media files created can exceed this limit, posing difficulty in how students may submit the assignment. This guide will explain how instructors can setup an assignment to accept large media files, and how students can submit these such assignments.

The solution to handle this situation is the use of OneDrive, which has a maximum file size of 10 GB. Students will be able to upload the large media file to OneDrive, copy and share the link for the file, and paste it into the assignment in Canvas. Instructors will then be able to access the media files via the shared links that the students have submitted for the assignment.

At CSU, User Files (students, instructors) have a quota of 200 MB. User files include profile pictures, uploaded assignment submissions, and other files uploaded to your personal Canvas file storage area.

Canvas stores only one instance of a file for CSU. When a file is copied to a new course by importing content, the files in the new course are linked to the originally uploaded file. The file only counts toward the course file quota in the course where it was originally uploaded.

Newly recorded or uploaded media via the Upload/Record Media link does not affect Canvas file quotas. However, media files uploaded via any other method (such as the Upload Files link) count toward the course quota

I have run into a related issue with Canvas, because I have an assignment requiring students to upload a folder containing two HTML files and at least one image (JPEG) file. Canvas Assignments does not allow for folder uploads. Why? I have no idea! In TRACS, students would upload their folder to Dropbox. I would go to their Dropbox, and be able to click on the HTML files, which would open in the browser. That made for a simple and easy way to grade the assignment.
