Recently Oracle ACE Wilfred Van Der Deijl posted a very interesting blog post of the JDeveloper preferences (including project preferences) that he and his team change by default:

What makes this post so valuable is not only the changes, but a description of "why" the preferences are changed, it's a really informative post.  Thanks Wilfred.

So out of curiosity has anybody else standards in place to change the default JDev preferences, and if yes, what do you change and why?  Obviously we're not looking for replies here on "I change the code editor margins", that's a little mundane.  But a really good example of something to share is from Wilfred's post about changing the default tuning options, if others have examples like this, please do share with the rest of us.

We use "How Swap" setting in our projects (Run-> Weblogic -> Hot Swap), instead of the standard "Server Reload".
We learned that it saves quite a lot of time when when  debugging custom methods or backing beans, since it allows changes of the method body without application  redeployment.

Hi Chris,

For me the most often changes are Max Log Lines. When debugging, I change oracle.jbo log level to TRACE:32 to see every detail of SQLs etc. The default 3000 lines is not much enough.

And personally, I change the Code Style->Format->Line Wrapping->Line Width to 200 or more. People have wider monitors/screens, I'd like to see as much as there can be. Just  ensure there's no horizontal scroll bar.
