As a reminder to members the moderators of the ADF EMG will block any
post along the lines of how-do-I-get-my-LOV-to-work. Generally
speaking if the moderators see code example, stack traces, or
questions that say I didn't get an answer on X-Y-Z forum so I thought
I'd cross-post here, we block these. The EMG exists to discuss
design, best practices, methodologies and the other high level ADF
concepts, as well as promote the ADF community as a whole. Any how-do-
I-get-my-LOV-to-work type questions are better posted to the OTN
Forums, that's why the OTN Forums exist.

As a reminder since the beginning of 2012 all new members are asked to
acknowledge the following set of conditions when joining the group:

"I understand that:

a) the ADF EMG is a professional group and I will only post polite
courteous messages
b) the group strictly does not accept job/employment posts or head
hunting
c) as soon as I start describing a bug, or how do I get a certain
feature to work, it's off to the OTN forums for me! (Really the OTN
forums are a much better place for such posts, I understand that my
posts to the EMG will be blocked if I don't comply)
d) if I am an ADF beginner, I won't post to the EMG without doing some
research first. Google is a great resource. OTN is a great resource. I
will make use of them!
e) all content posted sits under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0
Unported License. Any content I source must be attributed back to the
ADF EMG with a link to the Google Group
f) the Google Group moderators' decisions are final
g) if I'm uncertain about any of the rules I'll endeavour to contact
the group moderators' for their advice"

We appreciate the majority of members follow these conditions and
contribute to the success of the group, thanks for your assistance in
these matters.

CM.

As a reminder to all members the conditions for posting to the ADF EMG are below.  I'm about to block a bunch of messages along the lines of "how do I get this to work".  Sorry, this group doesn't exist to replace the OTN forums, you need to take those technical questions there.  In turn posting these sort of questions but including the terms "design" and "best practice" wont necessarily get you through the ADF EMG moderators' queues either, after 5 years running this group, we're wise to such tricks ;-)

Thanks for your understanding.  This mailing list goes out to over 1000 people and they really dont want to be blasted with the volume of technical questions the OTN forums get on every nitty gritty technical issue you and the rest of the community hits.  Rather we want more indepth discussions here about the overall design, best practices, the ADF community, not what method am I meant to call on the view object to sort data.

Kind regards,

Chris Muir

Just reminding you of the conditions for posting.  Also, it would be nice if you delete all the prior messages and information from the group software, except perhaps the quote of the specific message(s) that you are replying to.  Even then, you may want to do some editing.

I certainly don’t want to use my power as Moderator to censor.  So I allowed this post.  However, I must ask:  Why?  What is wrong with the OTN forum?  Several of the more experienced ADF users DO answer questions on the forum regularly.  If you don’t get an answer there, probably you have asked a question for which no-one has a good answer.  If you are on support (for instance, if you have a WebLogic Server License) you could submit a service request (SR).  I’ve done that myself, and I HAVE gotten a good answer – eventually.  Support can take a while.

StackOverflow is another place where I’ve seen good Qs and As on ADF.

If you want paid help with ADF issues - there is Oracle support - you can buy a support license for Oracle ADF.
Other than that OTN is probably your best bet for technical question (after Google that is).

Once upon a time In recommended a reward for answering OTN discussion threads.  That created much conversation- but little result.

Quality of OTN is important.  Imagine the value of having >75% OTN discussion threads "answered".  Please Reconsider.

The Oracle ACE program is one recognition of those who contribute to the wider community, so whilst answering lots of posts on OTN isn't a guarantee to becoming an ACE, it is one factor that would help those being recognized as potentially ACE or ACED.
