Anybody out there who has any information about using ADF 11g  applications on a WIN8.1 system using IE11?

My test (tested 11.1.1.7.0) shows that this combination doesn't work at all. You get an error "You are using an unsupported browser."

After digging for information on this I found that IE11, which is the default browser in WIN8.1, changes the User-Agent string to

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Trident/7.0; rv:11.0) like Gecko

which the ADF Boot script doesn't recognize. There are many more changes (refere to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ie/bg182625%28v=vs.85%29.aspx) which may cause trouble with the new IE11.

Hate to pull the certification card, but neither WIN 8.1 nor IE 11 have been tested and thus certified with this release. This means that yes, there may be issues. I'll check if the next patch set is supported on Win 8.1 and IE 11

Development actually is on this case for a while. The problem, as you report is with IE changing its user-agent. Not sure what Microsoft had in mind by doing so, but unless IE behaves 100% compliant to Mozilla Gecko this change will blow up any custom JavaScript written for IE. I don't have confirmation that the fix is in 11.1.1.8 but would assume this to be a target release for both the Windows 8 and IE 11 platform. You can't see it, but when writing this I am wearing my white "save harbor" T-Shirt telling about this being our intention and that there is no guarantee its coming in the product I mention ;-)

Thank's for the info Frank.
I appreciate it and fully understand your (and Oracles) position. From other comments, from the MS world, about this we are not alone wondering why MS did this change.

Hey,

maybe using server site initiate "compatibility view" works as a workaround.

look here:

Sample:
  <meta http-equiv="x-ua-compatible" content="IE=9">

Currently i have no windows 8.1 / IE11 - System available to test this workaround :(

Thank's Uli, I'll pass this on to the WebCenter guys and see if they can test this out.

Timo,

I created a IECompatibility filter that works for our ADF 11.1.1.6 application in combination with IE 11. Please have a look at:

Maybe it is worth keeping an eye on this My Oracle Support note "ADF Does Not Yet Support Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 (Doc ID 1599898.1)".
If someone knows a better source to get the most up to date information from Oracle on this, please let us know.

It currently says "At the time of writing, there is no solution other than to use a different Web browser. Patches will be made available for the various ADF product lines when certification is complete."

A colleague pointed me to "How to run your ADF 11.1.x application under IE 11: a workaround"
at http://jonasdegraaff.blogspot.be/2013/11/how-to-run-your-adf-111x-application.html

Would if be fair to expect more from Oracle here, like suggested workarounds, like information about which future versions of JDeveloper are intended to have support for IE11, ...?
(see also the more general discussion topic "ADF application browser support strategy"
at https://groups.google.com/d/topic/adf-methodology/Fhnqb3GzJTs/discussion )
