we need to do a formal Usability testing to insure the compliance
including to section 508 (Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended)”
that is “The application design and underlying technology must render
an application that is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities
Act (ADA).

For this requirement we evaluated the tool such as “HiSoftware
Compliance Sheriff”, SortSite. These tools read the source code of the
navigated pages or read the source code by crawling the pages from the
URL given. These tool works for static websites but it was unable read
the source code which was dynamically loaded and shown in the ADF
dynamic tabs.

We are searching a tool that should test and give the report against
our developed ADF application with the section 508 rules applied or
not. Can you please suggest the tool to test accessibility (section
508 including ADA) for ADF application?

Thanks

Ramesh,

This is of great interest to me as well.

I have run into the challenge of having a 508 testing team essentially say "see saw a lot of problems with ADF" without having fully identified the isssues.

Clearly, Oracle has had to (and indeed has) spent considerable resources ensure ADF can meet current 508 requirements (I also hear there is a new round of requirements coming down)

What are looking to do is to develop a set of patterns, guidelines and templates to ensure the highest probability of compliance at the design and development stage -- waiting until testing (and delaying testing until late in the cycle) ensures that remediation and corrections are far more burdensome.

We do not have these guidelines in place -- I would like to vet them and otherwise share them with this group when we do.

In the meantime, I would appreciate any specific input and love to see an active thread about this.  Some basics:

-- The biggest factor I have seen is that there out is great support for 508 compliance in ADF *but* it requires you complete necessary metadata at design/development time (e.g., not in testing)

-- There specific information from Oracle here   http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E16162_01/web.1112/e16181/af_access.htm

-- The gold standard for 508 and ADA testing (i.e., screen reader) is JAWS   (see http://www.freedomscientific.com)

-- general info on ADA/508 is here http://ada508.com/

I look forward to further dialogue on this topic!
