It's a tradition on the EMG that we give ADF speakers the chance to
convince you to turn up to their presentations at conferences like
Oracle Open World. Of course the abstracts give you a general idea of
what the topics are about, but with so much competition for your
attention at OOW (1800 presentations and counting), I like to give ADF
speakers a leg up on getting you in their room during the busy
conference.

Of course there's the ADF EMG User Group day at OOW (Sunday 30th Sept)
which hopefully everyone is attending (hint hint): http://bit.ly/adfemgoow2012

But let's hear it from the other speakers too. What are you
presenting and why is it a must-see-ADF-presentation for 2012?

I'll start the ball rolling:

Last year I presented Angels in the Architecture, a look at ADF design
patterns. I think I presented this at the last slot on Thursday, but
still had a good dedicated crowd.

This year as a result of Oracle constructing a training course on ADF
architecture internally, I'm happy to announce I'll be presenting the
updated presentation with all my "Oracle learnings" since joining
Oracle:

CON3103 - One Size Doesn’t Fit All: Oracle ADF Architecture
Fundamentals
Tuesday, Oct 2, 10:15 AM - 11:15 AM - Marriott Marquis - Golden Gate
C2

If you're looking to build large scale ADF applications, this
presentation will take you through some of the decisions points you
need to make that will influence the end ADF design, as well at the
ADF architectural patterns you can use as a template for your system
build.

That's me done. Other speakers, time to sell your OOW sessions to the
ADF community!

OK here is my pitch for OW this year, and you'll see I've a "Forms"
slant to my sessions (how did that happen! ;o) )

Monday 6:15 in the Marriott Shay and I will be running a "How to get
started with Oracle ADF". This was (I think if memory serves me) the
most attended ADF session last year. Of course, not something for you
hardened ADF developers but for everyone making a move to ADF, whether
from a Forms, Java or whatever background, we'll be talking about the
path to learning ADF, some of the key learning resources, and some
insight into new collateral we are developing for 2013.

Monday 7:15 in the Marriott "The Future of Oracle Forms: Upgrade,
Modernize or Migrate?". This is going to be one of these "straight from
the horse's mouth" sessions on Oracles plans for Forms, your options and
our opinion on migration. Of course there is not a specific ADF angle
to this, but I'll certainly be happy to talk about Forms to ADF
migration...which brings me on to...

Wednesday 11:45 - same room! :"How to Migrate an Oracle Forms
Application to Oracle ADF" This session will discuss the pros and cons
of migrating Forms to ADF, some of the techniques, decisions on
architecture, mapping of concepts, where things are different, as well
as changes to look and feel and I'll share some of my experiences of
working with customers who have undertaken a migration.

I'll also be at the Forms demo booth, but will be more than happy to
talk ADF to people as well...Stop by and say hello!

Well, the Marriott is definitely the place to be on Monday afternoon!

In Salon 3/4 at 16:45, I'll be hosting a hands-on lab on using ALM with JDeveloper. If you saw the earlier post regarding the new tutorial that integrates Hudson, JUnit, Ant, and Team Productivity Center with ADF applications, but didn't have the time to get it all configured or go through the whole tutorial, come to this hands-on session. Juan Ruiz has created an image where everything's set up for you so you can get right into creating JUnit tests, learn how to create TPC tasks, and create a Hudson job to automate the checkout/build/test/report lifecycle. Bring a USB stick and you can take the workspace and tutorial home with you so you can re-create the environment when you return to the office.

Next, if you are a SOA/BPM enthusiast, stay after Grant's sessions to come to an informal yet educational discussion hosted by Mona Rakibe (BPM Product Manager) and myself where we will discuss integrating BPM and ADF - including options on how to customize BPM task forms. This is at 19:15 in Golden Gate C3.

Finally, Wednesday at 10:15 at Marriott Golden Gate C2, I'll be presenting 'Set Up Your Oracle ADF Project and Development Team for Productivity'. Here I will cover the seven essential tips you should know if you are embarking on a new ADF project. This will include more ALM discussion as well as topics near and dear to the EMG's heart - best practices on structuring development teams, configuring JDeveloper projects, naming objects, sharing code, as well as setting your team up for success by gathering resources (hint: you've already completed one of these requirements by joining the EMG!).

Looking forward to a great week, look forward to seeing many of you there. In a strange turn of luck, I will not be presenting the last session before the Wednesday night festivities nor the first session on Thursday morning! ;)

Also, just a note that while we ADF Product Managers recognize the 'usual suspects' at OOW, and we can appear clique-ish as we gather together to catch up with one another...if you are new to OOW, or new to ADF and/or the EMG, please take the initiative to come up and introduce yourself! We love hearing from ADF enthusiasts of all experience levels. The logistics of OOW mean that we are often doing the Market Street Shuffle from this session at the Marriott to that one at the Hilton and back again to Moscone for a meeting, so we often don't have much time after our talks. The best time to catch us is at the demogrounds, so be sure to schedule some time in your agenda to hang out at the JDeveloper demo booths (Moscone South). These are staffed by PMs and you can generally learn a ton just from wandering around eaves-dropping on questions posed by others.

Before I promote my sessions,
I wanted to make sure everyone in this group is aware of an
ADF meetup
we are doing on Wed at 4:30pm at the OTN Lounge in the Moscone South demoground area.
We are aiming to create a place where ADF developers (EMG members or not) can meet other ADF users and also meet some of the product managers and other people behind ADF. So mark your OOW schedule and be there - free beers will be served.

My sessions this year are more focused on "beginners/overview" topics
I'm starting the week with a session on Monday about "what is ADF and what is its role in Fusion" - this should be a good overview of ADF and how it relates to other FMW components. If you have people who you think need to be educated about ADF, this will be a good place to send them.
In the evening on Mon, I'll be doing the "How to get started with ADF" session with Grant. Since this is a Birds-of-a-feather session we would also love to hear your tips on this for the newcomers in the audience.
On Wed, I'm going to the other big conference "JavaOne" and trying to update people there on what's new in JDeveloper.
It has been several years since the last time we had any airtime for JDeveloper at JavaOne so there is a lot to show there and I'll try to focus on things that will be appealing to Java/Java EE developers.

Hi,

I will have 2 sessions:

CON2787 - Oracle Business Process Management/Oracle ADF Integration Best Practices
Tuesday, Oct 2, 10:15 AM - 11:15 AM - Marriott Marquis - Golden Gate C3

This one I will be doing with my colleague - Danilo Schmiedel (BPM expert). We will try to combine ADF and BPM expertise to explain technical best practices for ADF-BPM integration. So, this will be real knowledge integration from both areas.

CON2785 - Oracle ADF Implementations Around the Globe: Best Practices
Wednesday, Oct 3, 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM - Marriott Marquis - Golden Gate C2

I will talk about similarities and differences of ADF projects around the globe. Our customer will be present in the room, you will hear independent opinion about ADF and see system demo. I will demo ADF best and bad practice, at the end will break the myth about typical ADF project development time estimate.

See you in SF.

Ok, It's my turn.

This year I'm having my first experience as a speaker at OOW.
I'm presenting on Thursday, Oct 4, 11:15 AM - 12:15 AM at Marriott Marquis - Golden Gate C2
CON5623 - Deep Dive into Oracle ADF: Advanced Techniques.

In this session I will show how to create and manipulate ADF objects at runtime programmatically. The session is going to be like a real scuba dive. So, I hope it will be interesting for ADF developers and scuba divers as well :).

Starting with creating a complete business component model, I'm going to descend deeper and deeper showing how to dynamically create a view object, a view definition, an entity definition, how to create and add validation rules on the fly, how to work with resource bundles and populate view objects programmatically. From the BC model we'll go up towards user interface. We'll discover how to work with dynamic tables and dynamic forms. I will show how to use UI categories and build a dynamic train.

The session doesn't contain only pure techniques, it considers some real-life use case and I'm going to use all these techniques to build a sample application step-by-step, implementing this use-case. The live demonstration is provided after each step.

So, I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in San Francisco.

One correction - the ADF meetup on Wed at 4:30 is going to be at the OTN Lounge which is inside the tent on Howard Street between Moscone south and north (not in the demoground).
Hope to see you all there.

My session will be on Sunday at 10:15 in Moscone South - 305 as part of the ADF-EMG usergroup event.

UGF4945 - Deploy with Joy: Using Hudson to Build and Deploy Your Oracle ADF Applications

In this session I'll discuss how to automate the build and deploy process of ADF applications using ant, ojdeploy and Hudson.
It's not only talking, but I actually expect to spend most of the time on demo's. These demo's include not only the build and deployment of basic applications (type 1 according to the angels architecture) but also how to handle adf libraries in multi-module applications (like type 3) and much more...
I hope to see you all there on Sunday.

And I'm really looking forward to the party on Saturday

See you all soon.

Ciao

As Chris, Lynn and others have already mentioned, OOW is always technically rich and it's a difficult decision determining what to attend. Sessions a plenty as you can see from the Oracle ADF & Fusion Development focus document.

I have a customer focused session titled "Oracle ADF: Lessons Learned in Real-World Implementations". This session takes the form of a panel that consists of three customer: Herbalife, Etiya, & Hawaii State Department of Education. During the first part of this session each customer will provide a high-level overview of their application. Following this overview I'll ask questions of the customers specific to their implementations and lessons learned through their development life-cycle.

Here's the session abstract: CON3535 - Oracle ADF: Lessons Learned in Real-World Implementations This session profiles and interviews customers that have been successful in delivering compelling applications based on Oracle’s Application Development Framework (Oracle ADF). The session provides an overview of Oracle ADF, and then three customers explain the business drivers for their respective applications and solutions and if possible, provide a demonstration of the applications. Interactive questions posed to the customers after their overview will make for an exciting and dynamic format in which the customers will provide insight into real-world lessons learned in developing with Oracle ADF.

In addition I will either be running or assisting with the following labs where you'll get hands-on experience with the latest version of Oracle ADF & JDeveloper building applications for your traditional web browsers as well as mobile devices.

10/1 Monday:  3:15pm – 4:15pm: Intro to Oracle ADF HOL; Marriott Marquis – Salon 3 & 4
10/3 Wednesday:  10:15pm – 11:15pm: Intro to Oracle ADF HOL; Marriott Marquis – Salon 3 & 4
10/3 Wednesday:  3:30pm – 4:30 pm: Developing Applications for Mobile iOS and Android Devices with Oracle ADF Mobile; Marriott Marquis – Salon 10A
10/4 Thursday: 11:15pm – 12:15pm: Intro to Oracle ADF HOL; Marriott Marquis – Salon 3 & 4

If you are free on Wed at 4:30 plan to be at the OTN Lounge for a meet and greet with ADF Developers / Customers / Oracle Product Managers. Free beer will be served, and it will be a great opportunity to mingle and meet.

Looking forward to seeing you at one of the many ADF sessions / labs.

Cheers!

Hi all,

on Sunday I will talk about Mobile Development with Oracle ADF during the ODTUG FMW Symposium.
So if you want to learn what you can do with Jdeveloper and ADF in a mobile context.......

Mobile Development with JDeveloper and ADF
Luc Bors, AMIS Services

Time: 3:15 – 4:15 p.m. (Moscone West – 2010)

To support multiple mobile devices, such as iPhones, iPads, and Android phones & tablets, applications are developed many times, using multiple tools, languages, and platforms. In this session I show how to use JDeveloper and Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF) to develop mobile applications. You will see options for ADF Rich Client & Trinidad Components and get introduced to the ADF Mobile Framework. ADF Mobile Framework makes it possible to create one application that runs on multiple mobile platforms. ADF Mobile Framework leverages ADF Developer skills so the learning curve for mobile development is lowered significantly.

See you next week !
