Having accomplished my objective, I decided to uninstall Dropbox. No error messages during installation or uninstallation. However, after it was uninstalled I discovered that my computer was extremely seriously messed up. Now the Documents folder has been moved down into a subdirectory of Dropbox. The new directory structure looks like this:
By the way, the proposed solution became even worse than I thought it was. Discovered another program that was spawning new folders in the original place, so now it becomes necessary to reconcile versions between two subdirectories and I need to know how the OTHER program handles the file system.
My folder is a client and the boards are the various elements of a complex project
My CRM has a board with all clients on it but not the detailed projects so I need to link the two and generate multiple folders for multiple projects.
Recently I have realised that I have added new files to the shared folder and they are not showing on my friends computer and visa versa. They have correctly sync'd and I can see them on both my online dropbox account and on my PC in the correct shared folder but my friend cannot. The files online correctly display that they have 2 members however my friend cannot see them.
Another possibility is that their Dropbox desktop application isn't working as it should and thus isn't syncing. I'm not sure if their Dropbox account online is showing the changes to the folder, or if it is just the computer. If the issue is also related to the online account, then this point doesn't matter.
I've tracked it down further to my friends account having the issue. Both are Plus accounts. My account online shows any shared folders I've got or have shared out with the number of members. My friends account has the same folders but lists Only Me as the member, even the ones listed as being shared, including those shared in from others to them. This is all online so appears to not be the application at fault rather an issue with their dropbox or dropbox itself.
All folders were proper shares, some incoming and some outgoing. They've been working perfectly for around 3 years and then suddenly stopped working a couple of months a go. I'll get him to open a support case.
I'm not sure what User Account Control has to do with anything here, I don't need elevated privileges. Security being the reason behind not allowing ArcGIS Pro to add folder connections at the drive root doesn't really make sense to me either - this can be easily thwarted by adding a symbolic link to the drive root, and you're in:
Additionally, my mapped network drive root is really just pointing to my organization's DFS file server. It's not actually the "root" of any machine, it's just a collection of folder shares from various network locations.
From an Esri Support Services call - "It is by design that you cannot make a folder connection to the entire C drive (or any other root drive) in ArcGIS Pro > -app/help/projects/connect-to-a-folder.htm This is due to performance issues--such as having all of the default folders on you C drive into Pro when they will never be used and using resources, etc. Just one folder down into a root drive (ex. C:\Desktop) would work."
The short answer is that we have this issue logged as [ENH-000107373: Please allow a folder connection to a mapped drive in ArcGIS Pro] That has a status of In Product Plan. The development team is highly aware of this need, and they are very keen to make this happen, but there are some other dependencies that need to be in place before this is implemented.
However, the workflow we sometimes have is to start without a template and then save later if the project is something that needs to be saved. When you follow that path, you do not get the option to not create a folder for the project.
You have configurations for both UPM and Microsoft Profiles at the same time - doesn't look like you have both profile management technologies turned on but if you don't need the microsoft stuff - I would turn it off and focus just on UPM and folder redirection
*Checked boxes, should redirects folders to the "data folder" of the user. but as per my screenshot above, AppData and Downloads are not redirected correctly BUT "WEM Resultant Actions Viewer" shows it redirects (AppData) & Downloads folder correctly. User if save something in Download folders, it stores in "C:/" which in our case is wrong.
Firstly, WEM is probably doing you a favor by not redirecting that amount of folders - noone should be redirecting things like AppData etc anymore, that's asking for problems. So if we focus on desktop and documents and pretend the rest isn't happening... ?
Hi, I am trying to move an entire folder (with lots of docs, sub-folders and other contents), from the Google Drive of my private Google account, to the Google Drive of my Workspace account. I own both accounts. But since they are not in the same "organization", Google Drive won't let me do it (via the option of sharing the folder with my Workspace email, and then transferring the ownership over the folder to my Workspace email ). You cannot transfer ownership between 2o domains. This is very frustrating, as I need this entire folder in my Workspace drive, and downloading it from one drive, and then uploading it to the other drive will take weeks!! (its a very big folder, with contents I have collected over 12 years!).
If you still require the gmail.com email address, then you can follow the Shared Drive workaround suggested by @cryptochrome - recreating the gmail.com account's folder structure in a Shared Drive, then moving the files into the corresponding folder.
Yes, I have created a Shared Drive in my Workspace account, but Google won't let me move an entire folder into it (why Google??). The folder I need to move from my private gmail account to my Workspace account, is huge, with thousands of docs, images and videos, organized in many sub-folders. So that is the challenge...
Yes, MultCloud will be exactly what you need. It's super easy, and you can move everything at once. All folders in one go. Just select them all, click move, select destination, and it will start chugging away in the background for you. It doesn't get more simple than that. From my experience, it's also super reliable, I never had any issues with it.
If you follow the cross-domain file transfer via Shared Drive suggested by @christiannewman, you can use the Transfer Files Ownership add-on for Google Drive or the webapp to recreate your folder structure on the destination shared drive: this operation is free.
I am new to Bitwarden and imported data from Lastpass; all of which went into collections. I then noticed that collections are used to share items with different users in the same organisation. So I set up some folder to keep items that I do not want to share.
I tried to move items from a collection to a new folder that I created. When I selected all the items and the folder to move these to, I got the message that the items were moved successfully. However, the were now showing both in the folder as well as still in the collection. When I deleted them from the collection, they disappeared from my vault altogether! What is going on?
Hey Ron, think of folders like tags (in a future version of Bitwarden they will be renamed as such) folders are just a way to organize your personal view and may include everything you have access to from your individual vault and organization collections.
I also got a response from your support people to explain that folders are for personal vaults, whereas collections are for organisational vaults. Which still does not make sense to me. What should I use for myself and my partner? Would I use the personal vault for items that only I want to see, and collections for shared items?
What does not make sense either is that Bitwarden allows me to move items from a collection to a folder in my vault. Which looks more like a copy as after the move the original item is still in the collection. But when I delete that item from the collection, it also deletes it from my vault. Yikes!
Folders are a way to organize any items you as an individual have access to (i.e. items visible to your individual account regardless of whether located in personal or organizational vaults). Folders - regardless of where the item is actually from/stored - are only visible within your individual account (i.e. even those with access to the same items will not see your folder structure involving those items).
To do what I am hoping to (share a large group of folders with internal company and subset of folders with customers) is there a better solution outside of dynamic views? Could I maybe make a workspace inside a workspace but still have the ability to copy/paste the template folders?
The all the folders in the workspace are meant to be shared with everyone in the inernal company, but then each individual folder created in the workspace was meant to be shared with the individual customer - so having an internal and external would not work.
I didn't see an option in the work apps because we are also having to "save as new" for the template sheets, reports and dashboard to each of the new folders and I did not see a good option for that other than the save as new option without causing issues with the templates I created. I might be wrong there.
Maybe it is Johnny Decimal because you can just number folders. In practice, it requires building a not insignificant amount of structure, which involves making all sorts of unearned decisions about order.
Folders are also welcome in my wiki folder, because I like to keep the note and images or other files together. Probably will end a max 3 level folder structure ( Like History - WW1 - Specific folder ) for these folders. These folder are basically refactored projects folders.
