Hi everybody.

I`m a Adeona user. Last nigth, my laptop was stolen. So, a tried use
Adeona, but its not working. In the Adeona`s site i found this
Warning:

WARNING

Adeona is currently not working because the back-end service (OpenDHT
on PlanetLab) is proving to be unreliable. If you would like to help
us, please subscribe to the adeona-developers mailing list and see
this initial post. Users may wish to subscribe to adeona-users for
announcements.

Is there another way to my Adeona work? Anybody can help me?

Thanks a lot.

Luiz,

I'm sorry to hear about your laptop. My wife and I have had three
stolen in the past year, including one from my motorcycle saddlebags.
This latter emphasizes that physical security is of utmost
importance. I've even gotten a Dell Mini (base price $200) to take
with me when I travel so as to leave my MacBookPro at home.

The failure by Adeona to work has been well known for months. Most of
us have switched to preyproject.com and there's an Email group named prey-s...@googlegroups.com
which you are free to join.

I cannot help with getting Adeona to work and have nothing to do with
its development. I'm just a user like yourself.

Right now, I'm using Undercover from Orbicule.com, MacTrak from Gadgettrak.com
, Adeona is somewhere on this MacBookPro, and I've got Prey
installed. I just upgraded to Snow Leopard so I need to now check to
see that everything works.

When I lost my laptop last February stolen from a hotel in London,
Orbicule found it in Hanoi, Vietnam and sent a picture of some guy
looking at it. Fat chance of ever getting it back.

However, two weeks ago I read about the FBI tracking down some stolen
laptops & desktops using Computrace Lojack from absolute.com. The guy
pleaded guilty and presumably is now serving prison time, and the
computers were recovered for the local school district in Washington DC.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Dave
