Praise the Lord.
Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,
    who finds great delight in his commands.
His children will be mighty in the land;
    the generation of the upright will be blessed. Psalm 112:2

As we continue our discovery of the blessings celebrated in Psalm 112, let's keep in mind the foundation upon which they stand, one that is built with a heart of reverence and love for our heavenly Father!

This week was tough for me. I had more work than time, less sleep than usual, and less junk than desired! After witnessing my nephew being crippled by spiritual forces of evil, I shut the door on foods I love, and opened my ears to the voice of God, taking more time to pray, and giving more attention to the little one. Added exhortation and shared scripture memory combating the particular issue of fear marked our days as my husband and nephew joined in.  I recently read a quote claiming, "Your children will become who you are, so you better make sure you are being who you want them to be." I want Solomon to see in us, people who seek and trust God for all their needs, people who are willing to make sacrifices that others might be well, ultimately showing our deep love for Christ.

Our verse this week suggests our children will reap benefits from being raised in a home in which the Lord's heart is modeled and taught. According to Charles Spurgeon,

" ...he who fears God, and leads a holy life, is, as a rule, doing the best he can for the future advancement of his house; no inheritance is equal to that of an unblemished name, no legacy can excel the benediction of a saint; and, taking matters for all in all, the children of the righteous man commence life with greater advantages than others, and are more likely to succeed in it, in the best and highest sense."

Though we cannot precisely control our children's future, we can be certain that when they witness our sincere commitment to following Christ, their likelihood of doing the same, will substantially increase, giving them the pleasure of experiencing the continued blessedness of a life that delights in Him.
