One of the most exciting things about turning 18 for me was the ability to vote. Not only was it a representation of personal independence giving my voice impact, but a show of appreciation for generational sacrifices made. My family wasn't particularly political, but I knew where they stood. Interesting how we are shaped by the experiences and beliefs of those most prevalent in our lives. If you read my last post,
"Mighty in the Land", I quoted the following statement, "Your children will become who you are....." My political views had been shaped by what I had heard, saw, and been taught growing up.
Several years after my first vote was cast, those views began to radically change. Someone else became
most prevalent in my life! His name, Jesus. I remember studying His word, and being clearly shown that my heart harbored hatred, and placed little value on what God valued. I readily submitted to His leading, asking that He would show me which boxes to check at the polls.
Many of you have already made your trip to the polls. But for those who are going today (last early voting day) or Tuesday, it is my prayer that what you support would be what He supports from this election forward:
1. The Value of Life
God is the Author and Artist of human life.
"My bones were not hidden from You when I was made in secret, when I was formed in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all [my] days were written in your book and planned before a single one of them began" Psalm 139:15-16
"Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter." Proverbs 24:11
2. The Value of Traditional Marriage
"God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them." Genesis 1:27
"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh." Genesis 2:24
3. The Value of Religious Freedom
"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free." Galatians 5:1
We will continue our discovery of the Blessings of God in Psalm 112 next week...
