★The Ashtanga Yoga was founded by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois from India, and has gained popularity in the west since the mid 90s. A strong focus on foundation postures and breath control makes this type of yoga a great fit for a variety of body types as well as levels of practitioners.
★The name “Ashtanga” is translated to mean “Eight-limbed” (or “Routes”). Ashtanga comes with an 8-limb philosophy – Yama (ethics), Niyama (self-discipline), Asana (posture), Pranayama (Breath Control), Pratyahara (sense withdrawal or reduction), Dharana (one-pointed concentration or focus), Dhyana (meditation) and Samadhi (realization; ecstatic absorption in the object of meditation).
