Yoga is an ancient practice that originated in India. It involves a series of postures and breathing techniques used to improve strength, flexibility, and balance.

The word “kundalini” comes from the Sanskrit language and means “coiled up” or “the power of life.” The term is often used in reference to energy that lies dormant at the base of your spine. Through yoga postures, meditation and chanting, practitioners believe they can activate this energy to move upward through their bodies, opening channels for spiritual growth and healing.

Kundalini yoga is different from other forms of yoga because it focuses on awakening the kundalini energy that lies coiled at the base of your spine. According to ancient Indian texts, when this energy rises up through seven chakras — or energy centers — located along your spine, you achieve enlightenment.
