Submissions must follow the icon rules?

I don't have a vector graphics editor, or any knowledge of how to use
one... how do I get a valid icon for my ADC 2 submission? Do I have to
follow their rules to the letter, or can I make a similar-looking icon
(but probably not with the perfect angles and everything) in a raster
graphics editor?

Hmm I don't seen any mention of the icon in the adc2 terms at
http://code.google.com/android/adc/adc2_terms.html -- did you read
something specific about it?

My personal feeling is that it's not that important, who cares about a
specific angle or vector graphics? Just make it look good and
attractive. When I got to market, there's like a bazillion of entries
to choose from in a long list -- and all I have to help me decide
which one to click to get more details is an icon and an app title.

How's your game going anyway?

Well, I scanned the terms and conditions yesterday and didn't see
anything about the icon. I just remember seeing something posted on
one of the adc 2 pages (not in this forum/email group) about how
submissions must have a valid icon. More hints that it would be
necessary are on the icon page; it pretty much says that all icons
must follow the rules they specify there, and it also puts the default
gear icon on the list that is "for reference only... please do not
reuse" or whatever.

I think my game's going to be shippable... barely. Problem is, it
currently only has one level which lasts about a minute, albeit with
replay value in the form of different goals (which seem to all be
properly difficult yet attainable). That level only took me a few
hours to code and test, so I can write one or two more... but I also
still have to finish the menu, and my method to score points in the
"use of Android's special features" category is currently not working
at all.

Also, I haven't actually tested it on a real phone. The computer I'm
using is embarrassingly bad at running 2D games (yes, I said 2D), and
it is normally supposed to take more power to emulate something than
to run it on its native system, so there is a hope, but the
performance right now is not where I would like it to be.

For the icon, well it's up to you but I wouldn't go overboard with it.
I don't/can't participate in adc2 so take with a grain of salt. For
the single level, that's on par with what people do on market: the
free versions of games generally have 1 level with a comment
indicating the full version has more features. It sounded earlier like
you wanted to have a free vs full/pay version eventually, so that
seems like a good start.

Only useful thing I'd have to say: watch out for the deadline,
adjusted to your timezone. It's very strict. Don't let a minute or two
ruin all your efforts, especially since most people will want to
polish till the last minute and submit at the last minute. I think you
can publish in advance and update till the deadline (I've never tried
obviously).
