Unfortunately I am unable to come tonight. My apologies.
I have really enjoyed reading the book with the kids (felt like Enid Blyton).
Have a great evening.

Sorry I missed out last night - shamefully, for the second month running!

After my recent, very first, reading and viewing of Mary Poppins, I found I enjoyed the book - I tnink a nice "chapter book" to read to and be read by children; agreeable tone; careful, restrained but lively, literate prose; space for fantasy and wonderful, personal image creation. 4-ish, I think, especially cf Wizard of Oz.

Movie quite dated, adult-oriented, overly rebuilt, bloated. Over-worked adaptation similar to that of Fantastic Mr Fox, but more so. 2-ish, I think.

I'm willing to be confronted by rebuttal.

Cheers

John

It was the first reading/viewing for me as well, but I knew most of the movie soundtrack. I have friends that love the movie above all others, it is a part of their childhood.
