THE ORIGIN OF ‘TRINITY’
”Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vein deceit,

after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not
after Christ.” (Col. 2: 8)

A NAME WHICH IS ABOVE EVERY NAME
THEREFORE MY PEOPLE SHALL KNOW MY NAME; THEREFORE THEY SHALL KNOW IN
THAT DAY THAT I AM HE THAT DOTH SPEAK; BEHOLD IT IS I.

ISAIAH 52: 6; JOHN 4:12, 8: 24, 17: 6

Neither is there salvation in any other whereby we must be saved (Acts
4: 7, 12)

A REFINER’S FIRE AND FULLERS’ SOPE
AND HE SHALL SIT AS A REFINER AND PURIFIER OF SILVER; AND HE SHALL
PURIFY THE SONS OF LEVI, AND PURGE THEM AS GOLD AND SILVER, THAT THEY
MAY OFFER UNTO THE LORD AN OFFERING IN RIGHTEOUSNESS.

MALACHI 3: 3, MATT. 3: 11-12

THE TRUTH THAT SHALL MAKE YOU FREE
“…, IF YE CONTINUE IN MY WORD, THEN ARE YE MY DISCIPLES INDEED; AND
YE SHALL KNOW THE TRUTH, AND THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE.” John 8:
31

Although many people do not know where the doctrine of “Trinity” came
from, they accept it as part of the Bible. Many accept it only because
they don’t know of a Biblical teaching concerning the identity of God.
Others accept it because they have been taught about Trinity for many
years, so it must be right.

The Trinity doctrine, i.e., of a God existing as three persons in the
Godhead, didn’t exist in the Bible as a Christian Doctrine. The number
three is never used in the Bible in association with God. The First
Century Church didn’t hold this teaching. Still, most of humanity
believes in Trinity. Could so many people all be wrong? Here is the
TRUTH.

Polytheism, the worship to many gods other than the one true God of
the Bible, first emerged in the ancient Babylon (Gen. 11:4) and was
planted and nurtured in the hotbed of Greek philosophy. The concept of
a divine Trinity was fully developed as a theological doctrine in the
3rd century A.D. by the merging of the Greek philosophy with the truth
of the Bible.

Several hundred years before Jesus Christ came to this world, lived a
man named Socrates, a philosopher who sought for wisdom. He received
his wisdom from an ‘internal sign’1, which he declared to be
‘divine’2. It spoke to him in ‘a kind of voice’3. When asked if these
‘voices’ were Zeus, Apollo, and Athena (the triad of three Greek
gods), Socrates said ‘Certainly’. When asked if they were his gods, he
answered, ‘My lords and ancestors’4. He explained that his wisdom came
from these spirits that were ‘knowing or wise’. He openly declared
that the source of these wise spirits was ‘demon’5. He esteemed these
sources of his wisdom. Socrates called one of his lords “Apollo”. In
Revelation 9:11, the angel of a bottomless pit is called Abaddon, the
Hebrew word for destroyer, but in the Greek tongue has his name
Apollyon, which is the very same as Apollo, who was the Devil or one
of his angels. The devil is the one who gave Socrates his concept and
philosophies. Socrates’ teaching influenced the second century
expositors as they begun to formulate the doctrine of Trinity.

Socrates had a famous student named Plato. He was born in 427 B.C. in
Athens, Greece. He thought and believed many things that are against
the Bible. His concept of a universal deity composed of three separate
beings. His concept of God was referred to as the ‘Platonic Trinity’.
The three persons in this triad were god, the idea, and the world
spirit. These were almost identical to Socrates’ gods: Zeus, ‘the
father’6; Apollo, the ‘begotten son’ of Zeus who was also the ‘god of
intellect’7; and Athena whose name means, ‘eternal life’, who is an
‘unbegotten spirit’ that came into the world from the head of Zeus8.
In this teaching, we have a Pagan Trinity of gods: father, begotten
son, and unbegotten spirit. Plato also had a famous student called
Aristotle who thought Alexander the Great. The listing of such
philosophers is so long and includes others who persistently struggled
to reconcile Greek philosophy and the truth of the Bible, like Philo
of Alexandria, a Hellenistic Jewish philosopher, who lived around the
time of Jesus. Philo tried to fuse Greek philosophy and the Bible by
employing the popular Greek concept of the Logos to explain how the
one true God of the Bible could relate without Greek philosophical
concepts being violated9.

Men have been led astray by these philosophies though the Apostles who
preached the truth of the Bible were not influenced by them. Following
the time of the Apostles, men began introducing teachings that were
different from the Apostles doctrine as Apostle Paul clearly avowed in
Galatians 1: 6-9. Within 300 years following the birth of the Church
of the New Testament (Acts 2: 38, 11: 26), the Roman Catholic Church,
based on the teachings of certain men referred to as “church fathers”,
became the first religious institution that coined and made its
foundation the triune concept of God in marked contrast to the
Biblical doctrine of the First Century Church expounded in Mark 2:7,
10: 29; John 3:13, 31, 8:19 &24; Romans 9:5; Eph. 2:28, 4:4-6; I Cor.
11: 1-4; Col. 1: 19, 2:9; Titus 2:13; I John 5:20-21; Jude 3,4,25.

Justin Martyr (A.D. 100-167), a Catholic apologist born in Neapolis,
about the time Apostle John died, was one of the earliest Catholic
church fathers who in 133 A.D. became a Christian and traveled in a
philosopher’s robe after studying philosophy10. Justin said there was
no difference between Christianity and philosophy; that Christianity
fulfills the highest aspirations of Plato11. Justin also said that the
Bible and Plato agreed12. Justin called Socrates, whose name means
“mighty savior”, a ‘Christian before Christ’13. Justin is referring to
the same Socrates who said his teachings were from knowing spirits and
demon. The Catholic Church greatly regards Justin’s teachings
admitting that, ‘His influence is marked above all in Irenaeus,
Tertullian, Hippolytus, and Origen, (other Catholic Church fathers)’14
who built on foundations laid by Justin. The new Catholic Encyclopedia
says, ‘Justin’s Platonism seriously affects his theology of the
relationship between the Father and the Logos’15.

In 185 A.D. Origen declared that, ‘all truth is precious, whether in
the Greek and Christian soil… He recognized in the revived Plato a
powerful ally of Christianity.’16 Origen ‘used the philosophy of
Greeks as the vestibule through which to admit his hearers …’17. He
used the Greek philosophy to show people the Gospel.

In 325 A.D., the Council of Nicea established that the Father and Son
are separate. The champion of this council was Athanasius. At another
council held at Constantinople in 381 A.D., men determined that the
Holy Spirit was also separate from the Father and the Son. Augustine
was one of the most notables of the ‘church fathers’ who laid many of
the foundations for the Catholic Church. Many regarded him as the
founder of Christian tradition in the western world. More than any
other he molded the doctrines of the church of middle ages18.
According to the New Catholic Encyclopedia, Augustine was given
certain books written by Plato. These books led him to the concept of
‘Trinity’19. He later devoted his life fully to Catholicism, but never
forsook Plato’s philosophy. He believed that ‘the basis for faith was
found in Christ, and the basis for reason was the philosophy of
Plato.’20 By the time Augustine died, most of the truth of the First
century Church had been buried. These ‘church fathers’ based the
teaching of ‘Trinity’ on the philosophies of Plato. Socrates had
wisdom given to him by Greek gods, whom he referred them as knowing or
wise spirits as he understood from the teaching of Plato. Thus the
concept of a divine Trinity was coined prompting a situation where a
doctrinal deviation from the Bible eventually leading to a gross
distortion regarding the identity and the name of the one true God,
the true purpose of baptism and its scriptural life application and
many other Biblical truth of eternal salvation.

It is decisively imperative to recall the experience of Paul when he
visited Athens, the center of Greek philosophy. After meeting certain
philosophers (Acts 17: 18), he reproved them for their godhead
theology calling it ignorance and superstition (Acts 17: 19-31). Paul
expounded that the devotions of Greek philosophers was ‘too
superstitious’ and that they were ignorantly worshipping to ‘THE
UNKNOWN GOD’ (Acts 17: 21-23) and urged them to seek the one true
God.

It can positively be asserted that Colossians is the epistle written
to those first century Christian believers battling a false teaching
infiltration of the philosophy of Greeks and the Logo’s doctrine. Paul
in Col. 2: 8 writes to refute this false teaching by emphasizing that
all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hid in Christ and that
shall be obtained from the knowledge of the will of the one true God
through all spiritual wisdom and understanding (Col. 1: 9), but not
through philosophy, vain deceit, tradition of men and elements of the
world.

A prophetic admonition unto this false teaching says, ‘Now the Spirit
speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from
the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with hot
iron’ (I Tim. 4: 2-4). Paul equates pagan religion (a worship to gods)
with devil worship (I Corinthians 10: 20), as it is the wisdom of this
world and vain imaginations, commandments and doctrines of men (Romans
1: 22-23) delivered from devil. The scripture epitomizes the wisdom of
the world as ‘earthly, sensual, and devilish’ (James 3: 15). The word
devilish literally means, ‘proceeding from and/or resembling a
demon’21. This is the very way Socrates got wisdom.

Jesus said (Matthew 7: 15), ‘Beware of false prophets, which come to
you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.’ Jesus
said, ‘I am the first and the last’ (Rev. 1: 17-18) but not the second
person in the triune godhead. He constantly and consistently used
expressions about himself predicated only of Deity: Matt. 28: 18, 20;
John 4: 25-26; 6:35, 38; 8: 24-25, 58; 10: 9, 30; 11: 25-26; 14: 6, 9;
17: 5. The Old Testament prophets also foretold the Deity of Jesus
Christ: Isa. 9: 6; 25: 1-12; 45: 14; 64: 4; Jer. 23: 6; 33: 16; Zech.
12: 8. Jesus is Himself called ‘God’: John 1: 1; 10: 33; 20: 28;
Romans 9: 5; Col. 1: 16; 2: 9; I Tim. 1: 17; Heb. 1: 8; I John 5: 20;
Jude v.25.

While declaring the identity of Jesus Christ, the one true God
revealed to him on his way to Damascus, Paul emphatically proclaimed
(I Tim. 3: 16) saying, ‘And without controversy great is the mystery
of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit,
seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world,
received up into glory.’ As the substratum of the Biblical doctrine
proclaiming that there is only one God manifested in the flesh, all
those six facts plainly set forth in this verse apply to none other
than the great God and Savior Jesus Christ (Titus 2: 13). The
scripture declares that ‘God was in Christ reconciling the world unto
himself.’ (II Cor. 5: 19) As Paul resolutely expounded the mystery
(Col. 2: 9), ‘all the fullness of the Godhead bodily dwelth in
Christ’, but NOT Jesus in the triune godhead as a second person as
pronounced in the doctrine of Trinity.

Man’s passionate longing is to see the glory of the one true God, who
is all in all (Col. 1: 16-17), the Lord Jesus Christ. Devil’s
unrelenting effort is to keep humanity from this. If devil cannot
prevent man from comprehending the truth entirely, he tries to beguile
man’s understanding through his subtlety. So it is that the enemy of
souls which has presented to the world ‘another Jesus’, one whose
glory has been robbed and distorted and, one whose supremacy has been
lost in a maze of human imagination. This was a plan conceived by
devil to steal the truth from the Church of the living God, and it
almost worked. Devil has accomplished this with the doctrine of
Trinity. In it Jesus has been reduced from his Biblical position of
great God and Savior to merely the ‘second person’ of a MYTHICAL
TRIUNE godhead. However, neither Jesus nor the Apostles and the
Prophets left behind any possible doubt to the Deity of the second man
‘the Lord’ from heaven(John 18: 20-21; 16: 29-30; Acts 10: 34-43; 1
Cor. 15: 47; I John 1: 1-4). IT IS GIVEN TO US TO KNOW THE TRUTH AND
ENDURING SOUND DOCTRINE THAT SHALL SET US FREE:

HEAR O ISRAEL, THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD (Deuteronomy 6: 4).

FOR IF YE BELIEVE NOT THAT I AM HE, YE SHALL DIE IN YOUR SINS: (John
8: 24; see also Exo. 3: 14; Deu. 32: 9; Isa. 43: 11, 13, 25; 44: 6).

A NAME WHICH IS ABOVE EVERY NAME (Phili. 2: 9)
The Scripture declare to us that the one true God shall have only one
name (Isa. 9: 6; Jer. 23: 6, 33: 16). As prophesied in the Old
Testament (Isa. 62: 2, 64: 2; Zech. 14: 9), this name remained secret
and a hope (Judg. 13: 18; Isa. 9: 6; 42: 4; 64: 2-4) until it was
revealed (Matt. 1: 21; Acts 4: 10-12). And it will remain hidden (Isa.
45: 15) until the mystery of the one true God and the identity of our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (Col. 1: 26-28; 2: 2) is revealed to
everyone who is humble to search and understand the truth of eternal
salvation. It is so natural to hang around until your guest introduces
his name when it is unknown (Matt. 11: 27; Luke 10: 22). A move away
from this plain fact leads astray. The understanding of the SOUND
DOCTRINE of the Bible regarding the identity of Jesus Christ is the
foundation leading to the mystery behind the name of the one true God
our Saviour (Titus 2: 10).

When the time for the fulfillment of God’s plan of salvation came to
pass, the name that is great in might (Jer. 10: 6) and hoped for
salvation was given from heaven (Isa. 52: 6; John 17: 6, 26; Heb. 2:
13). Please bear witness that the Apostles were hated of all men for
this name’s sake, straightly threatened not to speak at all nor teach
in this name (Matt. 10: 22; Acts 4: 5-21; 5: 27-32, 40-42) and
preached and gave their life for this wonderful name (Acts 8: 12; 9:
5; 10: 43; 15: 25). Jesus is the name that: i) is given for salvation
(Joel 2: 32; Acts 4: 12); ii) whatever to be done in word or deed
ought to be administered (Col. 3: 17); and iii) every knee should bow,
of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth
(Phili. 2: 9) far above all principality, and power, and dominion, and
every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that
which to come (Eph. 1: 21; Rev. 14: 1, 15: 2, 20: 4, 22: 4).

THE ‘REFINER’S FIRE and FULLERS’ SOAP’ (MAL. 3: 2)
The revelation of the deity of JesusChrist as the only true God
manifested in the flesh made of His word (Logos) and the revelation of
His name, Jesus, as a name given to salvation under heaven, ultimately
leads to the subject of baptism and the name to be applied in invoking
baptism.

As revealed in Jesus’ discourse with Nicodemus (John 3: 3-5), the
analogy of natural birth perfectly typifies the necessity of the new
birth through baptism, i.e., birth by water and Spirit to become the
son of God (John 1: 12; Heb. 2: 14-15). As it is so natural for a
person to be physically born to have a father of our flesh (Heb. 12:
9) and become the citizen of this carnal world, the new birth through
baptism is none a choice, but an unconditional requisite (John 3: 7)
to: i) get raised up, have a Heavenly Father and sit together in
heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Eph. 2: 6); ii) receive heavenly
citizenship (Phili. 3: 20 (NKJV)); iii) become fellow citizen of the
household of God (Eph. 2: 19, Romans 6: 3-4); and iv) be partaker of
the inheritance of the saints in light (Col. 1: 12). For those who
received as well as to those willing to receive the Biblical
revelation of the mystery of the identity of Jesus Christ and God’s
endorsement of being born again, baptism is referred to as getting
buried with Jesus and risen (new birth/washing of regeneration: Romans
6: 3-4; Titus 3: 5) with him to walk in newness of life through the
operation of God, i.e., baptism, (Col. 2: 19) where Jesus Christ is
the sole Surgeon of new birth (Luke 3: 16; John 1: 33). The Scripture
teaches that he who believeth not (Mark 16: 16) nor born again of
water and of the Spirit NEITHER SHALL SEE NOR ENTER the kingdom of God
(John 3: 3, 5).

Baptism in the name of Jesus is the spiritual application of God’s
grace and requires one’s obedience as an act of godly faith for the
remission of sins (Acts 2: 37; 8: 36; 10: 6, 33, 43, 47; 18: 8; 22:
16). The apostles as well as the prophets witness that whosoever
believes in Jesus, the one true God manifested in the flesh, shall
receive remission of sins through baptism in His name (Luke 24:
44-47; John 1: 12, 20: 31; Acts 2: 28, 8: 16, 10: 43, 22: 16).

Baptism without the name of Jesus and hence without the witness of
WATER, BLOOD AND SPIRIT (I John 5: 6-8, Zech. 13: 1) does not remit
one’s sin and cleanse ones soul for it is unscriptural and there in
none in the Bible who had been baptized in the titles i.e., the
Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. The shift from invoking baptism
in the name of Jesus to the titles emerged with the gradual
development of the concept of trinity, i.e., from about 150 until it
got its full expression around 500 A.D. The first documented
compromise to the unscriptural formula of trinitarian baptism in the
titles …

.. came with Justin in the mid-second century … to reflect his view
that Jesus is not a supreme God but a second person subordinate to the
Father. Later Irenaeus echoed the same formula. … trinitarians … used
this baptismal formula to promote the trinity doctrine, and to drive
the point home they typically immersed … three times, once for each
member of the trinity. Triple immersion was somewhat cumbersome and
inconvenient, providing yet another incentive to switch to
sprinkling23.

As critical to salvation it is scripturally required, without option
(Mark 16: 16), to be immersed in water in the name of Jesus to apply a
“REFINER’S FIRE AND FULLERS’ SOPE” as Malachi prophesied. The name of
the one true God given to save his people from their sins is Jesus
(Matt. 1: 21). There is only one savior whose name is Jesus, and
salvation is only through Him (Isa. 59: 16-17, 63: 4-5; )

The Scripture resolutely declare that:

1. REPENTANCE and REMISSION of sins should be preached in His name
among ALL nations, BEGINNING at Jerusalem (Luke 24: 47; Acts 2: 38).

2. ALL things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding
of blood is no remission (Heb. 9: 22);

3. The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from ALL sin (I John
1: 7);

Jesus has warned us that he who tries to get in some way other than
the true path to salvation will not make it any more than a thief
would (John 10: 1). Therefore, be keen to search and come to know the
of truth laid by Jesus Christ our Saviour through the Apostles and the
Prophets, repent your sin and be buried in the watery grave through
baptism in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and
cleansing of your conscience. Let the grace of our one true God, Jesus
Christ, be with all humanity.
