On Saturday, July 21st the Atlanta Planning Advisory Board
will not meet at City Hall. The Executive Committee is asking the APAB Delegation to attend the Super Saturday Voter Education Event at Grady High School. See information for
registration below. The regularly scheduled APAB Monthly meeting for July WILL NOT be held. (See you at City Hall in August)
On behalf of the Urban League of Greater Atlanta Young Professionals, I cordially invite you, your neighbors, and friends to join us at our 5th annual
"Super Saturday" voter education event.
As we enter what will surely be a heated primary election season, Super Saturday will provide you the opportunity to ask federal and state legislature officials and candidates about the most important issues facing our communities and listen to their platforms.
You will be able to hear the platforms of candidates from Fulton, DeKalb and Cobb counties directly from them, and speak first hand to the women and men seeking the power to make important
decisions that impact your life.
A key feature this year will be a debate of the local and state impact of the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST). We have invited key supporters and opponents of the referendum, including
Mayor Kasim Reed; CEO and president of
Atlanta Beltline, Brian Leary; director of the
Sierra Club of Georgia, Colleen Kiernan; and
DeKalb County Commissioner, Larry Johnson, to discuss their position with the Atlanta community.
We'll also host two educational workshops for the community: "Georgia Politics 101" and "Considering Running for Office?"
Super Saturday takes place Saturday, July 21, 2012, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Grady High School (929 Charles Allen Drive, Atlanta, GA 30309). This event is
free with registration. Please share this event with your friends and neighbors.
We'll see you on Super Saturday.
Yours in service,

Atlanta’s Pressing Homelessness Problem -
Mayor Kasim Reed recently announced that the City of Atlanta will undertake
a new effort to significantly reduce street homelessness. The first step in this process is to gather as much information as possible about the current state of homelessness in Atlanta. The Office of University-Community Partnerships (OUCP) at Emory
University has designed a survey to collect information about homelessness in Atlanta—and
we are asking for your personal input as well as your help spreading the survey among to your members.
We will use the survey responses to write a comprehensive report on the state of homelessness in Atlanta. The report will be used by the City of Atlanta to develop new approaches
and concrete responses to alleviate homelessness in Atlanta. It will also be made available to other interested parties including area governing bodies, organizations, and curious community members.
Please also
share this link with your members and encourage them to share their perspective as involved Atlanta residents.
The questions in the survey are designed to cover many different aspects of homelessness. While every question may not seem relevant to your work, please fill out as many of the
questions as you can. Each response is valuable.
All
responses will be confidential and
anonymous - we will not collect identifying information such as your name, email address or IP address. Again, to help protect your confidentiality, the survey will not contain information that will personally identify you or your agency or organization.
The survey results will be combined with other research and used to write a final report on homelessness in Atlanta. This report will be compiled from the work of researchers at Emory
University, Georgia Tech University, Clark Atlanta University, Georgia State University, and the Mayor’s Innovation Delivery Team.
If you have any questions about this survey or the research described in this letter, please contact Sarah Stein at
sarah...@emory.edu.
Thank you in advance for your participation!
