Dear Regional Coordinators,
First of all, we’d like to express our sincere appreciation for your contribution to shaping such compelling chapters across Asteroid Day’s first decade. Your efforts have been essential in expanding educational reach, strengthening local networks, and inspiring thousands of people about the importance of asteroid science and planetary defence strategies.
We are initiating an organisational recall process to align our actions towards the United Nations International Year of Asteroid Awareness and Planetary Defence (2029) — a historic milestone that will represent the largest global mobilisation ever undertaken on this topic, in which Asteroid Day will play a leading role. The coming year will begin a crucial period for expanding public engagement, strengthening partnerships, and promoting science education in an accessible and strategic way.
The role of Regional Coordinators will be adjusted to a more efficient format, taking into account individual availability, functions more focused on their locality, and the development of a goal plan. In addition, further guidance and ongoing support will be offered by the Asteroid Foundation to strengthen communication, expand public reach, and enhance educational actions.
Furthermore, a formal recognition process will be created for coordinators who excel in impact, creativity, regional networking, and overall results during this preparation period.
As a first step, I would like to know which coordinators intend to continue their engagement in the next edition.
To confirm your role as Regional Coordinator of Asteroid Day in 2026, please complete this 5-minute questionnaire on Google Forms by January 15, 2026 - LINK.
We deeply appreciate everyone's commitment and count on your collaboration in this new phase. Together, we will do even more meaningful work.
Kind regards,
Saulo Machado
Global Event Coordinator
