One day, i was using my macbook air mid 2011, it said that battery is low, so i charged and continued to finish my work, when i'm done, i took off my charger and then my macbook suddenly shut down, i was confusing and charged one more time, it finally turn on but the battery icon was missing and i go to system preferences>energy saver>show battery status in menu bar, but one thing happened, when i checked, it suddenly unchecked itself quickly, so i cant see if my battery is charging or not, and when i took off again, my macbook is still shutdown, please help !!!!!

My wife's 2017 macbook won't turn on/charge. It just displays this battery icon, with the red bar of the battery flashing intermittently. It's currently plugged into the charger but this doesn't seem to have any effect.

Nothing. There is nothing that really needs to be done. The plug icon indicates charging is on hold. It's expected behavior if it's normally and regularly plugged in for extended periods of time at the same general times of day. The Mac learns from your charging habits and optimizes the charging to preserve battery health.

If you don't want it managing the charge levels like that, you can click on the battery icon, then on Battery Settings then on the (i) icon next Battery Health, and then turn off the switch for "Optimize Battery Charging"

I have the issue on a 15" 2017 touchbar model. im used to having a magsafe 2014 and the usb c models are ****. im struggling to get the keyboard replkacm, ement program as differeent people i tal to online tell me i can and then one says i cant - I cant afford a decent mac. my 2014 is screwed and applem seem to be a bunch of *holes. I dont have the money to get the top case changed . my issue with the poewer icon is that it does not change from charging to the plug icon at all. this is with the latest Venrtura inmstalled. Any ideas? ive reset the SMC thousands of times and it seems that the battery is increasing in health gone from 53% to 63% in a week!!!! this is constantly charghing due to usbc cable kleep fall;ing outn ofg plug..... HATE HATE

By setting a check mark at the option Show battery status in menu bar on the tab item Menu Bar of the Settings window, you can add an optional battery display to the right side of the menu bar of macOS. This status item of Battery Monitor can be used as an alternative to the original battery icon of macOS. It provides a slightly different set of features and brings back the possibility to indicate the estimated remaining runtime in the menu.

You can set a preferred position for the battery icon in the menu bar. This position will automatically be remembered the next time you are launching Battery Monitor. You can set any position at the right side of the menu bar between the menu of the current front application and the icon of Notification Center. To set a new position,

After you have enabled the menu-bar display of Battery Monitor, it will be technically possible to control the App from the menu bar only. You can additionally remove the Dock icon, forcing macOS to handle Battery Monitor as a menu-bar tool. In this special mode of operation, macOS will remove the main menu of the App as well. Battery Monitor automatically compensates for that by adding the most important items of the standard menu to the menu of the menu-bar display.

The main menu will now appear embedded within the menu of the menu-bar icon, replacing the previous Show Overview Window item. The original order of the main menu from left to right will be kept in the simplified menu, grouping the different submenus into separate sections top down.

There has been a new battery installed a few months ago and there has been some trouble with the power port, which has been solved. Nevertheless I suspect some software issues because the battery status is not showing in the menue bar.

It sounds like you may have multiple issues going on here. If the Battery icon is not displayed on the menubar, then make sure it is enabled in the Dock & Menubar System Preferences where you will also find an option to display the battery charge percentage indicator. Otherwise I don't know what kind of software issues you may have going on here.

As for the charging issue, that is most likely a hardware issue. Does the Magsafe LED light up and if so what color is it? Is it a solid bright color, or is it flickering or dim? The laptop not indicating the battery is charging can be due to the DC-In Board, Logic Board, the Battery, or even the charger itself. Since you indicated previous issues, then it makes it impossible to say. If you installed a third party battery, then that would be the first thing I would suspect since the quality of third party Lithium-ion Batteries is extremely poor even when purchased from a respected vendor such as OWC. Yes, the quality of third party Lithium-ion Batteries are that bad.

Where do you see the wrong battery this in the screenshot? I cannot follow your thoughts, the battery is just not recognized by the system. The shown information has been different before the problem occured. But unfortunately I didn't think of taking a screenshot then.

I also avoid non-Apple products, that's why I chose this Repair Service. If he would try to betray the customers with false informations, he would have been thrown out of the community a long time ago.

The repair service is a trusted member of a german mac community, I'd be surrised if the battery has something to do with it. As far as I know they are using original hardware. And this would be dissappointing, the new battery is just a few weeks old.

In mentioned mac community someone suggested to open the book and plug tha battery out and then in again (a classic so to say) but this is a 15'' late 13, it's not as simple as opening the tray and take it out. So I'm sceptical about this tip there, even I'm quite good at fine motor skills.

The information shown in your screenshots shows you are not using an original Apple battery. The only way to get an original Apple battery is by getting the battery replaced by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or by installing a used Top Case Assembly which includes a glued in Battery along with a Keyboard & Trackpad. If the repair shop is unaffiliated with Apple, then they are installing used parts or they are misleading people. The third party battery is the most likely part to be defective as it can be the reason their is no battery icon on the menubar because the battery is not being fully recognized. Since this is a recent repair you should definitely take the laptop back to them to make it right.

FYI, personally I will always avoid third party Lithium-ion batteries as long as there is an OEM battery available. If an OEM battery is not available, then I'm not sure I would even consider a third party battery (it would require lots of research to confirm a relatively good battery). This is how bad the quality of these third party Lithium-ion batteries are. There may indeed be some good batteries out there, but finding them is the hard part since the market is flooded with junk and knock-offs.

Unless the repair shop is an Apple Authorized Service Provider, then they did not acquire the battery from Apple since Apple does not sell individual stand alone batteries as the battery is included with the entire Top Case/Keyboard Assembly. If they are not an AASP, then at best the part you received was used. This is just the way the Apple repair world operates at the moment.

In the screenshots, there is no manufacturer or battery serial number listed, or Design Capacity and other information. Perhaps this is due to the fact the battery is bad (or perhaps your Logic Board is bad and not properly communicating with the battery), or it is due to it being a third party battery.

Was the entire Top Case/Keyboard Assembly replaced? Or did they just replace the battery? If they only replaced the battery, then it is definitely not an official Apple battery unless they removed it from another laptop (which means the battery is used).

I'm not saying the repair shop may not be talented or good since a lot of independent repair shops have great talent, but they may not be representing themselves properly. Keep in mind only Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider are the only ones currently able to provide brand new genuine Apple parts. The only possible way an independent repair shop unaffiliated with Apple could provide a "new" part is by disassembling a brand new laptop.
