Proposition 65 is "The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986". California residents are generally familiar with Proposition 65 warnings, as they are in coffee shops, apparel stores, airports, etc. Proposition 65 aims to protect drinking water sources from toxic substances that cause cancer, birth defects, and other reproductive harm.

Oil lamps are a storied part of many historical moments as well as being part of various cultures and traditions around the world being used even today. Oil lamps are still important to many homes, granting us light when the electricity goes out and granting light in areas where electricity may not be reliable or even available.

Bad Wicking At Half-Way

After the fuel level was down to 1/2 way, I noticed that the Biodiesel had a pretty hard time wicking on the wick and my flame size dropped down quite a bit. Also, due to the lack of wicking happening, I noticed that my wick was starting to burn up as well.

Thank you. Just what I needed to know with the new Air Pilot. I have many lanterns, Feurehand, Petromax etc that burn evenly, but when you mentioned devil horns I took out the scissors and the thing runs brilliantly.

There are some cone-shaped burners (like Kirkman) that are just another way to try to give you a better flame. It really depends on the lamp, whether these replacement cone burners work any better than the original.

Hope that answers it for you.

Trimming a wick with scissors works poorly. The mechanical action of scissoring pushes the wick fabric ahead of it slightly before it cuts. Even a good, sharp, clean cut tends to leave a wick ever-so-slightly slanted to a point at the far end of the cut.

I use a pair of end cutting pliers to trim oil lamp wicks. Like a giant pair of toenail cutters (truly a cringe worthy simile!) these clip the wick straight as can be. I labeled these pliers as wick trimmers, and refuse to use them for any other purpose. This ensures that they stay sharp and true.

Normally, I cut a wick to a very shallow point in the center by making two slanted cuts on each side of the wick. I count the lines of warp to determine the center of the wick. I count the lines of weft to ensure that the lower, outer end of my cut matches on each side.

The Wolfard Oil Lamp Wick Holder is made specifically for the Wolfard Oil Lamp collection. They are made from durable scientific glass and fit in the top of your oil reservoir. Glass Wickholders fit into the top of the oil reservoir of your Wolfard Lamp and hold the wick in place. They come in one size and fit all styles and sizes of Wolfard Oil Lamps. Oil Lamp Wick are the fuel delivery system in your wick fed oil lamps. Just like an automobile, proper fuel delivery is essential to proper performance. Imperial Lighting Co. offers high quality oil lamp wicks in the most popular sizes for both Flat Wick Lamps and many Center Draft Lamps using a tubular wick.

A warm beautiful oil lamp light starts with the right wick. Oil lamp wicks absorb and transport fuel oil to the top of the burner for combustion. Without oil wicks that fit properly the promise of light falls short. Most wicks are 100% cotton wicks made in the USA; unless otherwise noted. Search our quality lantern wicks by width and type below. All wicks for oil lamps ship for free. Flat and round oil lamp wicks for kerosene lamps are listed by width. Shop tiki wicks for tiki torches and oil candle wicks for olive oil lamps and making candles.

Length of a lantern wick or oil lamp wick can be summed up pretty quickly; a little too much is a lot better than not enough. If the replacement wick cannot reach the oil it will dry out and extinguish itself. An 8 inch wick will last through about 15 gallons of lamp oil (that's enough wick to burn 24 hours a day for 320 days).
