Just purchased a 2016 Journey and dealer says they want an extra $500 at my cost to have the navigation fixed. I thought it would be covered by warranty but they claim it's not.. this thread helps, however I have no idea where to find the maps. Can someone please help? I Was excited about the navigation then after I purchased the vehicle they tell me about the extra $500 fee and I was aggravated about it. I figured it should work from the get go but I guess not..
Base warranty is 3/36 - if the vehicle has more than 3 years or 36K miles on it then the manufacturer's warranty on the navigator will have expired. However even if it has, everything ought to have been working when they delivered it to you.
If not, it CAN be made to work without dealer intervention, as you know if you read through this topic.
"Refurbished" in quotes because what I am guessing is happening, is that they just keep putting the corrupted file back on the radio, and saying it's new, even though the memory module is somehow defective.
I am new on uconnect 8.4 nav system, I have a dodge journey 2012 and just replayced my 4.3 screen to uconnect 8.4 with nav system, my post might be out of subject, but just wanna try of someone can guide me, current map installed is for north amarica and mexico, I am trying to find a way to install middle east map? Is there any way to do so?
I worked with someone from Sweden a while back who also wanted to re-home his system from the US to Europe.
He was able to install 3rd party maps, though address support and such was unavailable - if I recall correctly the 3rd party maps were installed as a gmapsupp.img file.
I wish you luck - you are likely to be feeling your own way around. It might be simpler just to move to the US.
One option would be to see if Garmin publishes maps like the ones they do for North America. The next option would be to get Open Source Maps for the Mideast and see if you can convert them to the gmapsupp.img. You might still have issues with address support. Best of luck!
many thanks for your feedback, actually I have the gmapsupp.img file for area I am looking for, but to be honest, as I said before, I am new to uconnect 8.4, so any advise on how to install that gmapsupp.img on device will be much appreciated...
Just wondering if anyone on here downgraded from CTP17 - CTP13 and lost their navigation settings. I backed up the users settings before, but when i restore them, i get an error. I used to get Cannot unlock maps. When i hit the navigation button it just sits at the loading garmin screen. Nothing else is affected, as NAV wasn't working before.
Had this issue on my 2014 Dodge Journey. The screen turned black, and then the next time it turned on, no detailed maps... I asked the dealer about it and the guy had heard about it and said the only fix was to replace the stereo. That didn't sound right. It took a lot of searching to find all files, but finally found them all (and upgraded to the 2018 maps). I couldn't do the one step update (got half way then failed, but the multiple step worked). I left the 5 files in the main folder and the SQLite folder (unsure if that helps, or if I have anything extra, but it all worked). Here were my steps (PM me if you need an help with files):
Downgrade radio navigation to CTP13! This is very important as newer versions have securIty that prevents loading of maps without dealer codes. Take a second USB drive with the gupdate.gcd from CTP13. Turn on the car and hold temp up + temp down + front defrost, after a few seconds dealer mode will pop up. Select garmin recovery update and plug in the usb drive with CTP13 on it. NOTE: After you flash this it takes a long time to load. Let it load and it will still say cannot unlock maps. Just click ok, you may need to restart your car one time to click out of the pop up.
1) On the USB stick, move gmap3d.img, gmaptz.img, gmapbmap.img and gmapdem.img from the Garmin folder into the Disabled folder. Leave only gmapprom.img in the Garmin folder.
2) Move the JCV folder from the Disabled folder into the Garmin folder (SQLite Folder stays).
3) Plug the USB stick into the car and perform the update again.
1) On the USB stick, move the ASR and SID folders from the Disabled folder into the Garmin folder. Leave gmapprom.img and the JCV and SQLite folders.
2) Plug the USB stick into the car and perform the update once again. After this is completed, the system is fully updated to the new maps and all features work except for the phone number lookup.
Using the latest files from -update.html upgrade the radio and GPS software. In September 2018, these files were: CTPMY14.KWI (Radio to 7.09) and gupdate.gcd (CTP17). The first is the only file in the root directory of the flash drive. The second is the only file in the Garmin folder (no other folders or files on the drive). Do one and then the other.
I found the CTP 17 adds a few extra features that weren't even available on CTP 16. I've wanted to upgrade to 2019.20 but for the life of me cannot find the files! We're you able to upgrade in one step or did you have to do multiple steps?
It may be that I just never noticed before (got the vehicle in July), but now the GPS is predictive of where I'm going. If it know that I go someone on Sunday, as I start to drive it shows the name of that place and how long it will take to arrive (it's just a bar on top). If I like, I can just tap on that bar and it will route me there. It's not been 100% accurate, but usually pretty good. I think it requires that I've used GPS to go to that location in the past.
wife's 2016 crossroads plus - she was in austin a couple of weekends ago, went to enter an address on the nav system that has been working flawlessly from day1, started entering address, then the screen blacks out, and when it comes back on she now has the infamous "can't unlock maps" and no detailed local info available messages. Course the sob would be less than 2 weeks out of warranty when this happens.
